Bridge 13.0 Flickering Full Screen Preview

Select any image (jpg, nef, tiff) > View > Full screen preview > right arrow key for next image. On changing slowly to view the next image and viewing it for 5 sec or more, the image is displays properly. On changing quickly, or very quickly, through the next 3-5 images, then stopping to view an image, the viewed image does not display properly; its brightness flickers and someimes its size flickers. Must restart Bridge to fix this. Tried purging the cache and relocating the cache, but neither solved the problem.

Bridge 13.0.0.562. Windows 11 Pro (22H2, build 22621.755).  GeForce RTX 2060 (Studio driver 522,30).

And another problem is, that the shortcuts for the labels (colors or stars) are not always accepted when executing a shortcut in the awful flickering full screen mode. It depends on when you press the shortcut key - if it is in the millisecond when it flickers then the label is not accepted. And the chance to use the shortcut when it flickers is very high, because it flickers very very often (max. 1 second between two flickers).

Adobe: PLEASE FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, could you create a video of the issue? But also state if you just ingested these images, or if it also happens on a folder you already visited. I'm not in front of d as computer right now,I do not remember if 13.0.2 still has a create full screen resolution images setting. (Btw, also state the resolution of your screen)

With the Beta version I have got an additional problem besides the flickering. If I view the pictures in full screen (with space key) and then zoom to 100% and then go to the next picture, the picture is not calculated to be shown "sharp". Too see a sharp picture I have to zoom out and zoom in again, then it will be calculated to show it "sharp". And this for every picture. I expect that I can zoom to 100% and got to the next picture and it will shown again sharp in 100% zoom.

I can not believe that it is such a challenge for Adobe to show pictures in Bridge. This is a basic function! It is really annoying that it takes so long time to fix it. This is really a bad joke.

Hi @Andrewspix , @defaulth1ng5oxr3m8g ,

Could you share the following details about the issue:

  • Bridge version
  • Is the issue specific to particular files/format?

Please share the sample file/files on which you are observing the issue at sharewithbr@adobe.com

Can you also confirm that the flickering is happening everytime you open an image in fullscreen or is it only the first time?
Thanks,
Bridge Team

HI Shubham, The flickering occurs with Raw (Canon CRAW) and JPG files. It
happens only the first time the full screen preview is viewed, not the
second and subsequent times.

I also have this problem. Full screen preview images flicker distractingly at open. It is really annoying. Is there any bug fix yet ?

Windows ver 22H2 OS build 22621.1105, Bridge 13.0.2, Nvidia RTX 4090 Driver 528.02.

Sorry but on my side, there's 0 change.

I double checked that I was on the same version, and attached the print screen of the about box.

The use case I'm using:

- having the picture full screen

- and then going previous/next.

It seems to me Bridge functions a bit like Lightroom:

- it creates some previews to put into a cache

- first view, it will create a smallish preview into the cache, creating the flicker

If you go fullscreen, you see the software re-reading the file, probably to get the 100% version.

If you first click on a picture from the grid, it will already create the preview, before going fullscreen; therefore, no flicker on this user case.

This was quite useful 15 years ago when computers were not as fast as today.

Previews from Finder are blasing fast, even with JPG of 5 to 10MB. I can keep the down key and it will not bat an eye.

In any case, having a cache feature should not be a lot slower than not having one.

MacBook Pro 16" M1 Pro by the way.

Adding one thing in the discussion as food for thought, because I suspect it's somehow related.
I tested on a Surface Laptop. I did not have the "size" flickering issue (which is the cached image being loaded on screen with the wrong width/height), but there's definitely a blurry first version being loaded, and then being replaced.

I do not get why the Photos viewer of Windows is MUCH faster at displaying any size of pictures, even up to 8MB jpeg, it's almost immediate.

I'm still convinced this first caching process is causing a lot of the current issues, as it doesn't seem to be loading directly loading the pictures.

I wonder why Adobe needs to be convinced here that the problem is in the software and not the end user/system. It's reproducible on so many different systems, whether Mac, Windows, AMD, Intel, Nvidia, brand new PCs or 10 year old PCs. It occurs everywhere, I myself have seen it on 4 different laptops. So Adobe: please just take a computer and just use the software. Then you will see it and you can see if your update works or not. And don't use the end user for "try and error".
I am a software developer and in our company the software is tested before it is delivered to the customer. I suggest that maybe you guys introduce that at Adobe too :).

Hello,

same issues here, fullscreen and slideshow are unusuable in the most up-to-date version of Bridge. I run it on a new Macbook Pro M1 Max. I wish we could get an older version of Bridge back that actually works. This is completely embarrasing, but even worse that Adobe just does not care. Incredibly unprofessional.

53 replies with various people with various differnt configurations... No solutions... Clearly there is an issue here that Adobe needs to look into.

Im running a brand new laptop with the most up to date NVIDIA drivers (527.56) and keep having the issue. Am close to throwing my laptop out my window at the moment... Please look into this ASAP adobe as the problem is clearly your side.

Same problem with my Bridge running on  M1 Pro MacOS Ventura 13.1

Any idea to solve the problem, maybe an alternative tool for viewing Full-screen images with next/prev ?

Thank you in advance

Same here. Absolutley obnoxious, irritating and slowing workflow. Running Macbook Pro M1 Max, Ventura 13.1, 64 gb RAM.

Adobe, you know this problem exists. Could you please do your loyal customers a favor and fix this severe problem so that we can get what we are actually paying you for? We would really appreciate it if you would fix this.

That's because there has not been an update since 13.0.1

Please hang on until the next update, ESPECIALLY if it says that that update should fix the flicker.
