Bridge Creating Multiple Files When Downloading

Explorer ,
Oct 31, 2021 Oct 31, 2021

Bridge is creating multiple copies of photos when I download from my camera.  I'm using a Z7 and running on Windows 10 - Bridge is up to date.  This just started a few days ago.  When I use the Photo Downloader it creates two copies of each photo from my camera - I then have to delete every other one before I start actually downloading.  Anyone have any ideas??

I have the same issues, perhaps I am doing something wrong. If someone can help that would be great!

I uploaded my files yesterday (May 10) and have convert to DNG checked on the Adobe Photo Downloader.  (I am using  Mac Monterey 12.3.1 and Bridge 2022)  It sometimes takes approx 3 minutes before Adobe Photo Downloader begins to start downloading although I can see it's on. I'm never sure if it's actually going to begin. I ended up with 2 sets of folders, one that was dated from the day before?

In the one called 20220509, there are four subfolders:

101ND850  which contains xmp files and NEF files

D850       which is empty

DCIM  which contains another folder entitled again 101ND850 that has just NEF files

NIKON /folder D850/ empty

The other folder called 20220510 has the DNG files.

I do not need so many files. One set of NEF and one set of DNG  with the correct date is what I need. Can someone please advise me what I need to turn off to make this happen? This is creating far too many files than I need. Thank you so much!

Hi Linn,

Since you're on a Mac, you do have one option: go into Advanced mode in Photo Downloader. For some reason, this will let you download only one version of each file. (Plus, you can turn off the downloading of the non-image files).

Unfortunately this does not work on PCs.

Thanks for your reply Gary. I wasn't seeing the files in Advanced Mode or otherwise and never knew they were there until I called Adobe and they helped me reinstall Bridge. It's all there now. Appreciate your reply.

For now the only solution I found is to uncheck the files that appear to be without a thumbnail image. That would avoid creating those unwanted folders.

Hi, could please be more specific as to where these files to uncheck might be?  Thnak you.

Ahhhh, I just spoke with Adobe and now understand what you were saying. I wasn't even seeing those files/folders. We reinstalled Bridge and now if I uncheck all unnecessary files/folders from the Photo Downloader ( eg. Nikon or D850), I can save copies to the folder I want and just have the necessary files without duplicates etc.

Perhaps you'll need to rebuild Bridge's Preferences. Please try that:

Quit Bridge (if running). Just before clicking on Bridge in the Dock or double-clicking the application, for the Mac, press Command-Option-Shift. For PCs, press Control-Alt -Shift. Then open Bridge BUT KEEP your fingers on those keys until you see a window pop up. From the window, choose “Reset Preferences," "Entire Thumbnail Cache”, and/or "Reset Standard Workspaces.” In your case, choose "Reset Preferences."

I'm on Win11 and the remedy didn't work. Also the contortionist Cntrl-Alt-Shift doesn't work! Manual deletion of cache doesn't work either.

I am experiencing the same thing. Importing from a Canon 5D Mark IV, Bridge is duplicating each  raw-file on import.

Whats wrong?

I was having this problem. Reformatting the card seemed to solve it ... at least for the time being. We will see.

I am having the same issue but files are kept on Sharepoint after downloading from camera (Canbon 5D Mk IV). After editing them in Photoshop, as I am going through batch renaming and keyword tagging the images in Bridge, Bridge randomly downloads a few seemingly random selection of files with same file names plus my PC name. e.g File named "Mountain_View_23.jpg will be duplicated as an image without a thumbnail as Mountain_View_23_PCNAME.jpg and Bridge will proudly tell me I now have two copies of the same file. Only happens in pairs, never triplicates.

The previous original files are then thrown to the end of the sequence so I have to move them back in line in order manually then delete the duplicates manually. This only started with latest update earlier this year - V 14.1.0.257

Really annoying as it totally disrupts the flow especially if you fail to notice it hjas happened to photos outside your field of view on the Bridge workspace.

The same version of bridge also randonly flits to another keyword when selcting keywords. e.g. I may have several keywords with same few first letters:

Mountain view snow

Mountain view rocks

Mountain view sunset

I select ...snow and suddenly it flits to ...sunset after 2-3 seconds. I am not touching any keys - it just does it without any input and stays there! Some keywords seem to be more affected than others. I have over 2,500 keywords accumulated over time and it is really frustratying when the keyword selection cursor suddenly moves to another part of the keywords list without reason.

Frustrated! All suggestion welcome as I have tried the solutiuons above without success and this happens on 3 different PC's in three different locations all with different specs but all running Windows 11 latest version.

Really not sure what to do - it is an inconvenience rather than a disaster but a very persistent and annoying inconvenience!
