Doesn't Bridge support .HEIC?

Explorer ,
Dec 10, 2017 Dec 10, 2017

I use Bridge as my main photo viewer, but when I tried to view my iCloud photos the other day, I noticed that I couldn't open any of them, because they are now all syncing over in .HEIC format. Doesn't Bridge support this format?

Hi Michael,

To support HEIC/HEIF files preview in Bridge on your Mac 10.13 machine, please install latest version of CameraRaw and Bridge CC 2018.

Then you will be able to preview the HEIC/HEIF files in Bridge.

Thanks,

Deepak Gupta

That doesn't mention anything about Bridge support on Windows 10. Is this possible?

I needed to install the HEVC Video Extensions, published by Microsoft Corporation, from the Windows Store for this to work. I had previously downloaded another HEIC extension which worked for Windows Explorer and Photos, but not for Adobe products.

Using Windows 10, Bridge/Photoshop 2023.

Dear Adobe colleagues,

it looks like files preview in Bridge von HEIC/HEIF files is still not possible on Windows 10 systems.

Is that still true?

Are there plans to include this feature into the next version of Bridge.
Kind regards

Harald

I have the free HEIC codec but not the $.99 HEVC codec and have partial support in Windows 10. I'm guessing thst you might have live photos which I believe would require the video support codecs.

Many thanks for you quick answer. I have installed HEVC codec, but it does not make a difference.

As I can see the thumbnails on Windows Explorer and can preview files in for example Adobe Media Encoder, it looks like the lacking previews are a pure Adobe Bridge issue.

i've got the same issue - I instaleld the MS .$.99 (can't belive MS has the gaul to charge for that) hevc codec and can see some previews in exploer / open them with apps but can't see previews in brdige, anyone have a way of forcing bridge or the os to rebuild the previews? i've tried clearing the cache in brdige and changing the settings for the preview size/quality but no dice.

Many thanks for your comment. The HEIC files (pictures) work for me perfectly, too. The videos (HEVC) do not show the preview.

Care to elaborate?  As in how to install Bridge correctly.  My Bridge (up to date) does not display HEIC files.  Lightroom CC and Photoshop do.  And I have purchased the 99 cent piece of software from Microsoft to allow Windows 10 to display HEIC files.

I would LOVE to know the settings. I have the latest Bridge, Windows 10 Environment and the Codecs but I do not get an image in Bridge for .HEIC files. (Windows Explorer shows thumbnail images). Is there a preference setting or additonal codec required by Bridge for Windows 10? Thank you in advance for any ideas....

I have this same problem and have tried the same things you all have tried.  Anyone with Windows and Bridge having any luck?  Sure seems like it would be a setting somewhere but I can't find it.  Tried the HEIC files as well.

Hello there,

I too have downloaded the codec for HEIC on my Windows 10 OS and I am now able to preview HEIC files in Adobe Bridge with the only caveit being that it's not an HD preview.

HEIC-Adobe.JPG

I recommend to troubleshoot by doing the following:

1. Make sure Adobe Bridge is up to date with the latest version

2. If it is updated with the latest version and still isn't working uninstall Adobe Bridge and then reinstall it.

If the troubleshooting didn't work for you then your best bet is to convert your HEIC files to JPEG using CopyTrans and just make sure you hit the JPEG box in the Filter tab to differentiate between the original HEIC files and the newly converted JPEG files.

Best of luck,

Suggesting converting to jpg is in my opinion not a useful advise. I would recommend to find another app which does support HEIC.

I just installed Bridge, and have the exact same problem. I have the $0.99 codec, and HEIC works fine in Photos and Explorer, but not in Bridge.

Hello Jkristia2011,

Thank you for your reply. May I ask why you don't advise converting to JPEG? Do the HEIC files get compressed?

In regards to the HEIC plug-in not working it's probably because it's not available on Windows 11 yet. As I mentioned I'm running Windows 10.

My reason is simple.

I usually copy all my images from my phone into a folder and then start browsing and picking. If I first have to convert ALL the images to jpg before I can browse simply because of a limitation int the app used for browsing - well, then I would look for another app where I can browse directly without any extra step.

So it has nothing to do with compression or image quality, but simply the simplicity of browsing.

The HEIC plugin is working on Windows 11, before I added it, I was not able to view in Explorer and Photos, but after purchasing the $0.99 plugin it works just fine in those 2 apps.

This thread is old, but this appears to still be an issue. I am unable to preview heic files with windows 11 and latest release of Bridge. I have downloaded the .99 cent Msft hevc extension. Has this been addressed without needing to convert all the images to .jpeg?
