Favorites corrupted when updating to 2024

When I updated tp Adobe Bridge 2024 my favorites folders got all messed up. Most of the folders are no longer listed in the favorites. There are only seven locations left in my favorites. Those locations left get repeated in the list about seven or eight times making the list about 50 folders long (way longer than I ever had it), but it's just the same five folders listed repeatedly (the attached screenshot just shows a portion of this repeated list).

Bridge won't let me delete any of those folders from the list, nor will it let me add the folders I want to add back. When I tried to add the missing folders back, the add to favorites button is grayed out as though the folder is already in the favorites.

Any ideas of what's going on here?

Thanks!

Pat M.

Have you tried to rebuild Bridge's Preferences?

Quit Bridge (if running). Just before clicking on Bridge in the Dock or double-clicking the application for the Mac, press Command-Option-Shift. For PCs, press Control-Alt-Shift. Then open Bridge BUT KEEP your fingers on those keys until you see a window pop up. From the window, choose “Reset Preferences," "Entire Thumbnail Cache,” and/or "Reset Standard Workspaces.” In your case, choose "Reset Preferences."

Please let us know if this worked or not. Thank you.

Thank you Gary.
I went ahead and tried to rebuild Bridge's preferences as instructed. It didn't work. When I openned Bridge up after doing that, there were no folders in the Favorites. I went and added some. The new folders then appeared in my favorites. But when I restarted Bridge again to see if they would remain there, the ones on an external drive did not remain there, even after I re-connected the external drive. Only the folders on my computer's hard drive remained in the favorites. This did not happen before I updated Bridge. With previous version of Bridge, the external drive folders always remained in the favorites list, even when the external drive was not connected to the computer. Now, each time I turn on Bridge, I have to re-add those folders on the external drive.

Another odd thing that continues to happen is that every time I look under the favorites arrow in Bridge's menu bar, the list gets longer. Each time I look at the list, the same folders repeat one more addtional time. So after looking at the list five times, the folders that list in the favorites will be listed five times. See the screen shot. Thank for your help.Screenshot 2023-12-05 at 5.33.30 PM.png

@sharonsharalyke there doesn't seem to be an answer. I did what @gary_sc  said to do and nothing changed. It looks from what @Shashwat_Srivastava said this is a problem Adobe needs to fix.

Hi, @Pasquale33924493va3c I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to you til now.

One question: were those folders in your Favorites on removable drives that had been disconnected and reconnected? I ask because there is a glitch in Bridge that causes the Favorites to be stripped of folders connected this way.

There is one workaround that I've heard of where you create an alias (on the Mac) or a shortcut (on the PC) and place one of these in Favorites. Hopefully this will work until Bridge can fix this.

Good luck!

@gary_sc , yes, it is external folders that are affected. Originally it was both the folders on my desktop and the external ones. Now it's just the eternal ones. Thank you for the work around suggestion. I will try that and see what happens.

Sorry for my delayed response. I've been working on some other non-photography related projects, and I have not been using Bridge as much as I usually do. With the update, sometimes my external drive folder show up on Bridge and sometimes they don't. After doing some testing, I discovered that if I have the external drive already plugged in before openning Bridge, the external drive folders show up in my favorites. If I have Bridge already open and then plug in the external drive, the external drive folders will not show up in my favorites, even after several minutes. So it works as it should as long as I have the external drive plugged in when I open up Bridge.

The only other issue is when I go to the favorites drop-down menu, I still get the real long list of available favorites because the favorites keep repeating. See the screenshot.

Yes, it appears that Bridge does not have the ability to know what's available if the external drive was connected AFTER starting Bridge*.

Have you also tried quitting Bridge and restarting if you need to add a drive after starting Bridge?

*Some years ago, this was common practice. For example, if you started and/or installed Fonts after an application was started, the application had to be restarted to recognize the newer fonts.

I can no longer stand what Adobe has done with this program and their lack of care for their users. I'm tired of scouring these boards for anwers, especially when there are little to no answers most times.
