Unable to delete identical but re-assigned child-keyword

Bridge V13.02Hi everybody,apologize, if the topic has already been discussed. I want so re-assign a child-keyword from an old parent-keyword to a new parent-keyword and then delete the old parent-keyword with it's child-keyword. What did I do? 1st try: Created the new parent-keyword (not identical with old parent-keywod) with the (identical) child-keyword and assigned both to all images. Result: old and new parent-keyword with tehir (identical) child-keywords activated. When de-selecting the old child- and parent-keyword in the keyword panel the (identical) new child-keyword de-selected automatically as well. OK, this approach didn't work. 2nd try: Created the new parent-keyword and the new but slightly altered child-keyword (added a # ). Then same procedure as above. Then I deactivated the old parent- and child-keyword from all images. Then I deleted old parent- and child-keyword from keyword panel. So far, so good. But when renaming Then I renamed the newly assigned but slightly altered child-keyword (removed the #). Result: the old parent-keyword and it's child-keyword reappeared in italics, although they've been deleted. My conclusion so far: if a certain child-keyword has been assigned it cannot be used/shifted with/to another parent-keyword. It will always exist and show up in italics at the former location - if it's identical. True or false? Thanks very much for your help. Martin

A certain child-keyword can be moved to another parent, but it's tricky.

I think the problem is that when you edit keywords in the Keyword Panel, it is saving those values in two places: IPTC Core keywords (dc:subject) and Lightroom Hierarchical Subject (<lr:hierarchicalSubject>). Bridge is trying to keep these two fields synchronized, which can lead to problems like the one you are experiencing.

Also, there are some deficiencies in this syncing. For example, when you edit keywords in the metadata panel IPTC Core section, Bridge does not update the <lr:hierarchicalSubject>. This might be the reason why keywords you thought were deleted reappear. Another thing is that when you have duplicate child-keywords under different parents, the IPTC Core keywords contains both parents, but only one of the duplicate child-keywords. It seems that Bridge is working behind the scene to manage the keywords in both locations but in doing so, it makes it difficult to edit the duplicates in <lr:hierarchicalSubject>.

On your 2nd try, did you remove "#" from the child-keyword using the metadata panel IPTC Core? If so, that only removed it from <dc:subject> but not <lr:hierarchicalSubject>

Try this:

1. Create the new parent-keyword and the new child-keyword with # and select both.
2. De-select the old child and parent-keyword and delete both.
3. In the new parent-keyword, create an new child-keyword using the old value (without #) and select it.
4. De-select the child-keyword with # and delete it.

Hi Gregreserthanks for quick reply. Ok, "tricky", that's comfort to me.I do not use LR, but Bridge with PS/ACR.In my 2nd try I renamed/ removed the # within the keyword panel, not in the metadata panel.And yes!! I followed your recommendation, and it seems to work for the moment. Will re-structure the rest of my keywords and keep fingers crossed...THANKS FOR QUICK HELP!Martin
