Issue: Photoshop 25.4.0 Color picker "Could not use the eye dropper tool because of a program error." message

Adobe Photoshop Version: 25.4.0 20240118.r.319 67d7f0b x64

Issue:
Step 1: new or open document
Step 2: draw shape (pen tool or ranctangle tool...). Or insert Solid color layer and fill with shape.
Step 3: while the shape layer is selected (this doesn't happen when the empty color fill layer or any bitmap layer is selected), change the color with the Color Picker (Foreground color) or use the Color Picker from the tool bar.

Expected result: color picked.
Actual result: color picked with error message, every time the eye dropper is used

This error was on the previous Photoshop Beta version tool.

@HatM just tested and I can reproduce the error, it's not like Adobe to introduce bugs with updates 🤣

@Jeff Arola it's amazing that Adobe knew about the bug in version 25.4 Beta and still decided to release it to the public without fixing it first

Hello! When I go to open the Fill Color dialog box through the properties pannel and try to use the Eyedropper tool, an error message pops up that says, "Could not use the eyedropper tool because of a program error." Anyone know how to fix? I haven't been able to find anything.

Thank you!

ibaguru,

I don't think it's an issue with your macOS Big Sur, but with the just released Photoshop 2024 (25.4) update.

Same error messages pop up either in my Windows 10 and Mac Sonoma 14.2.1 versions, but beside this, the tool is working. Error messages are annoying in a final release (25.4).

Mac OS Sonoma 14.3 - M3 Max CTO Macbook Pro

The eyedropper tool can be useable when using it from the main panel.

But when it comes to using from layer styles or other places it says:

"Could not use the eyedropper tool because of a program error."

(full disk access and screen recording access are granted)

Have any of you already faced that issue?

Yep.

Just scrolled over the replies over the mentioned link. Thanks, so it's a known issue, but still has not been fixed.
Great update again...

Everyone has encountered this error, there have been many reports from users, but Adobe is still silent, without any explanation for users (their customers) as well as no instructions on how to fix the error. Software bug fixes upgrade. They are losing trust from users with every bad update
