P: Permanent "GPU required" warning too frequent

Hi.

When I run ACR 15.3 from Bridge it shows me following message:

"Graphics processor acceleration is currently disabled. Please be aware that Camera Raw will soon require GPU support to edit photos. You can manage GPU settings in the Performance section of the Preferences dialog."

This is not an issue because my GPU is indeed below system requirements - it's fine for me.

I just click ok, message closes and I can work - can close ACR and open once again without this message, can even restart Bridge and open ACR without this message.

But the next day first time I open ACR I get the exact same message once again.

And this happens every day first time I open ACR.

My GPU is unsupported, you showed me the warning - ok, I get it.

But what's the point in showing it every day?

This is super annoying to say the least.

Can this be be disabled?

You state:  my GPU is indeed below system requirements.

That's a problem! One that, as the product continues to evolve, will eventually stop you from using it at all.

Thats the point.

Review your system's specs and compare them to the minimum requirements document:

Your answer is as pointless as showing that warning every day.

I understand what it says, there is no need to "explain" by just repeating it once again with your own words.

And it's more than enough to show it once, but definitely not every day I run ACR.

The real problem is that you are posting in a lot of threads just to post - without providing any valuable answers or additional information.

Well, I'd say it's a pretty dramatic message considering you won't be able to use ACR at all in perhaps a matter of months. Can you imagine the flood of "why didn't you warn us" if that message only appeared once and dismissed?

My guess is that they debated this and decided, in light of the potential fallout, to put up the message on every launch.

I'm sorry the facts have ruined your day. If you don't like the message, upgrade your old, underpowered GPU.

Until then, no, the message isn't going away. For good reason!

Now you know how to make it go away.

Now look at this from the other side.

At the moment ACR works just fine without GPU acceleration, at least for RAW files I'm processing.

If the next version (ACR 16 or whatever) will require GPU to edit images - I will not going to upgrade GPU, I will stay on the latest ACR version that works (ACR 15.x).

I will see this warning EVERY DAY when I use it, even when changes stated in the warning will already happen.

A lot of messages in ACR and LrC can be closed or dismissed completely (with don't show again checkbox), but not this one.

And this is annoying.

For what good reason?

Because someone decided that all people are stupid and it's not enough to show some information once?

So you are trying to convince me that it's ok to upgrade hardware just to make some bothersome message go away which was intentionally added and has nothing to do with the software functionality?

Once again - everything works just fine on the current hardware, just stop bugging me.

Your answers doesn't scare anyone, it's not even answer to the question being asked after all.

I'm asking maybe there is some registry key or XML config value that can be changed to disable this warning.

You seem somewhat confused on how the forums here work (or how Adobe produces software). Let's start here and hopefully, it will not fall on deaf ears:

From Adobe (community forums):
"Currently, the community on community.adobe.com is used as a destination for customers to ask questions and engage in peer-to-peer conversations. IOW, this is a user-to-user support forum. The Adobe Support Community is a place to ask questions, find answers, learn from experts, and share your knowledge. Because we are a community used by people of all ages, cultures, and people at work, we carefully moderate its content".

If you have problems or need answers from other users who volunteer their time to help, do so in a discussion topic and message body, whereby you post specifics (what's the problem or issue, or the question) and provide some information about your operating system, version of the software you're asking about and steps to illustrate your problem.

You got two sets of correct answers you've dismissed. That's the first problem.

If you want Adobe to be viewing what you post, there are two ways based on what you are hoping to report:

1. If you wish to report what you believe is a bug, you do so by following these guidelines:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/how-do-i-write-a-bug-report/idi-p/12373403

This isn't a bug, it is by design and the why was explained to you! Also how you can't turn it off. Also how to stop it from bugging you (update your old, underpowered GPU).

2. If you wish to provide a feature request, you do so by following these guidelines (then make a request in the product forum):
https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-ideas/how-do-i-write-a-feature-request/idi-p/123863...

You didn't file a feature request. Do so. Don't hold your breath, but at least do something about your request instead of rant when you've been provided correct answers to your question.

A lot, not all. Full stop, end of story.

File a feature request; we can then sit back and see how far it gets you in the current version of Adobe Camera Raw/LR.

I agree daily seems excessive if you've intentionally turned the prefernce off. I'll see if we can tone it down. Perhaps once per version update to Camera Raw would be sufficient, or in cases where the state of GPU accelration has changed to off since the last session would be better.

Thanks,
David

Thanks a lot, that would be great!

I'm really surprised to see such a response from Adobe employee here (in a good way) - kinda contradicts all my previous experience.

Maybe something has changed for better...
