Raw not working in Elements 2023

I am a longtime Elements user. I recently bought a Canon R6 mark ii and couldn't get Elemnts 2021 with any of its updates to open teh raw files, so I bought Elements 2023, installed teh Raw update, and it still won't open the Raw files--I just keep getting an error message saying to install the Raw update. So I uninstalled everythign and tried again. Same result. After more than an hour on hold with online help, I am starting to get desperate. The Canon R6 mark ii is listed as supported; it is apparently the updat eitself that isn't installing or working correctly. Help. Thanks.

You are also going to have to ask in the Elements forum as Elements uses it's own “unique” version of Camera Raw.

You can update to the latest camera raw 15.3.1 by following the below directions:

The following is a workaround to update Camera Raw within Elements. It is recommended to wait for Camera Raw updates within the product for issue fixes. 

If you haven't been able to update the Camera Raw plug-in for Elements, follow these steps:

• Download and install the latest Camera Raw version from https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html

• Quit all Adobe applications.

• • On macOS, double-click the .dmg file to mount it.
  • On Windows double-click the downloaded .zip file to unzip it. (Windows might unzip the file for you.)

• • On macOS, double-click the .pkg file to start the installer. 
  • On Windows, double-click the resulting .exe file to start the installer.

• Follow the on-screen instructions.

• Once installed successfully, close the installer window.

• Navigate to the following folder:

  • On macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CC/File Formats
  • On Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats

• Copy the Camera Raw plug-in from the CC > File Formats folder that is mentioned in the above step.

• Navigate to the following folder: 

  • On macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/Elements<Version Number>/File Formats
  • On Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements<Version Number>\File Formats

• Replace the existing Camera Raw plugin in Elements<Version Number> folder with the plug-in that you copied in step 8.

Excellent piece of advice Jeff. I also had the problem of Elements 23 failing to open Fuji RAF files from my X-T5 and others. Following your really clear instructions I put the new file into the correct location  on my Windows 11 machine and it all works just fine now. Many thanks.

Jeff, I have run into this proplem too.  I am not very computer savy. Can you break these instructions down in any simplier terms? I have windows.  Thanks for all your help!

Unfortunately, that wasn't any clearer. When I installed the latest camera raw plug in and went into my downloads file, all it showed was an application file.  No zip file.I am a 71 year old woman and bought a Canon R6m2 in June and I have always shot in jpeg.  I was hoping to learn about raw but I'm off to a rocky start!

It might be easier in the meantime if you download the Adobe DNG Converter and convert your files to DNGs which will then open in PSE 2023.

Adobe DNGs are copies of your Canon R6m2 .CR3 files in Adobe's raw format.

J'ai le même problème que vous, j'ai acheté PSE 2023 la version de camera raw est 14.1 elle n'ouvre pas mes fichiers raw, j'ai un canon  R6 mark II Avez-vous trouvez la solution?

@mariellececile I believe you have three options-

1) Upgrade Photoshop Elements

2) Upgrade Camera Raw as instructed by @Jeff Arola in the post above.

3) Convert your CR3 files to raw DNG with the free Adobe DNG Converter App.

This 'Free' app is the answer for all Legacy Apps that will not be upgraded to match the latest camera file formats.

What operating system are you using?

You need to install either camera raw 15.5 or 16.2 to support your Canon EOS R6 Mark II

J'ai installé des deux mises a jour de camara raw de multiples fois, aussi j'ai réinstallé PSE 2023 ,  cela ne s'installe jamais dans mon PSÉ j'ai beau mettre a jour rien a faire, j'ai toujours utilisée PSE maintenant avec 2023 amera raw ne fonctionne plus, je ne suis pas la seule dans ce trouble, je me suis fais volé plus de 100 $ par adobe! j'utilise un PC Windows 10.

The Camera Raw installer itself doesn't install camera raw in photoshop elements 2023.

You need to follow the instructions on this page to get Camera Raw 15.5 or 16.2 to show in Photoshop Elements 2023.

C'est du vol pur et simple, toutes mes autres versions PSE fonctionnent avec camer raw. je me suis fait avoir, adobe vous êtes plus riche que moi,   je demande un remboursement? J'ai 77 ans
