Hey daveh22266513, I'll help you figure this out.

You're using Camera Raw when this error occurs. Based on this, try these suggestions:

  • Press & hold CTRL + ALT & go to Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw to reset Camera Raw > then close Photoshop.
  • On Windows, the GPU info & Logs location is %APPDATA%\Adobe\CameraRaw. A shortcut to get to this folder on Windows is:
    • Press the Windows + R
    • Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe\CameraRaw
    • Rename the GPU & Logs folder in this directory by adding .old at the end. (GPU.old & Logs.old)
    • Restart Photoshop, which should capture the updated driver & hardware capabilities.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Shivani

Hi Shivani

The error is still occuring along now with a 'bad allocation' messgae which causes the Camera Raw ro stop working, usually freezing or just closing, Photoshop screen to flash between plain black screen and partial application screens and the system to need closing / starting up. Irregular - sometimes I can work for several hours, sometimes for only a few minutes.

Some people here, myself included, reported a memory leak when use AI functions such as denoise and Lens Blur. Either the "out of memory" or other graphics processor errors, or just dramatical slow down without error messages. The only way to work around for me is to restart Photoshop every time when this occurs. Interesting that not every system is affected, but those affected, to my knowledhe, did not find any solution.

I am also dealing with this situation at work. At first, I could restart my computer and the error message would not reappear for days. Now, I am having to restart my computer several times over the span of a few hours. I have updated everything on my computer and it did not fix the situation. I have checked that enough RAM is allocated to Photoshop - that is not a problem. I am very frustrated at this point.

I am having the same issue, very frustrating. Adobe must have a big problem.

I think the problem is computer resource based - I upgraded my video card
from 8 gig to 12 gig memory and my system RAM from 32 gig to 64 gig and the
problem has gone away, at least until the next Adobe release. I thought the
video card may have a fault though diagnostics did not show one, and having
used it in another PC it seems to be functioning well enough. Camera RAW
still runs very slowly and becomes un responsive for a period when loading
image previews where there are a large number but I think that is because
the software is well not up to the job.

Your files must be really large or your system really busy with other stuff if 8GB VRAM + 32GB RAM was not enough. As for a faulty graphics card, I replaced 3 (all with the same RTX 4060 chipset but from different manufacturers) with the same issues. If there was be no memory leak in the ACR (or, perhaps, other problems as well), it all should never happen. In my case it is always associated with the use of AI elements, particularly Denoise and Lens Blur. Am not sure about AI masks, I do not use them often.

History states 500? Not related to ACR but I think you rally overload your PS.

However, my response to you was a kind of sarcasm, addressing your mention that 32Gb RAM and 8Gb VRAM is insufficient for proper work of ACR...

I have such problem too. GPU is compatible. I have a gaming laptop which is preety good. I had occasionally problem with CAMERA RAW last months but it wasnt that often. Now it works for a minute when i just started laptop and then gives me this error. I dont use any other programs besides photoshop and light room. So I am really confused. I believe its problem of Adobe.

Adobe rarely takes ownership or responds properly. They wait for someone ( usually a self appointed expert) to share the same solution someone has suggested over and over. It usually involves solving it yourself which doesn't work if it is a coding problem on Adobe's side.

I have been getting this same error message on and off when I try to use any of the newer CR options. I have the NVIDIA RTX 4070 GPU with 12GB VRAM + 32GB RAM. There should be no issue. I works sometimes  fast but other times just boggs down until it spout that error message. I have no issue with extreme GPU intensive games and a few other AI focused activities on this PC.

I agree - I have an 8GB Radeon 5700XT and 64GB of ram running Windows 11 and I get this issue as well. Too bad Adobe chooses the crappy Microsoft strategy of farming out actual support to relative randoms with dubious results.
