Question

Align text with an image (picture of an icon)

I am writing some system steps on a slide with Text box and inserting an image of a button/icon e.g.

1. Open the x window.

2. Click in the field, and enter text.

3. Click the Submit button (picture of the button).

When creating this as a responsive project, I have found that its moving the icons all over the page, if I lock it on one breakpoint, its not correct for another.  I have tried unlocking and manually moving the images of the icons to the correct spot, but when I have published them they still seem to be moving around.

I have tried using the 'alignment' options but that doesn't seem to be the tool i require.  Is there anything like text layout/align with text' like they have in word.  I've trawled through all the questions but haven't seen a similiar problem.

I am using Captivate 9,

thanks in advance.

I've got many slides where I need to have this working, so if there's a quicker way of doing it, I'm all ears

Further to above, I've now found/tried using the % relative on my different images (button/icons) but don't think I am doing it correctly as it doesn't seem to have make any difference.  I've trawled through forums/and google looking for how to - incase I've been fudging it wrong... possibly.  But without an easy fix on this I think I'm just going to have to forget trying to insert images (buttons) for my project.  As trying grouping, and %relative positioning hasn't made any difference to a published test file.

    thanks again

My suspicion is that you didn't install patches for CP9. The most recent version is 9.0.2.437. Can you check under Help, About Captivate?

Responsive project alignment has to be done with the Position Properties panel. Did you use that panel to define the size and the position of all objects?

Thanks Lilybiri, I am in the process of the IT dept getting it updated, cause as you suspected we haven't got the latest patch, once that's done and if it resolves the problem great.!

FYI - yes I was using the position properties panel, and locked the position and size...

I think perhaps what I'd like isn't really that possible? I've been manually dragging these images (of buttons and icons) onto the slide and looking at each break point to make sure they are in place and locking them.

My ideal - to use the library folder (called buttons/icons), and insert them into the relevant step within the text, to align with the text.  Maybe I should play around with trying to add them as a symbol/character and see whether that works.

Did you use relative positioning to link the text to the image for aligning purposes. Locking a position is just useful in the development phase, has no influence on the published project (just like the eye icon on the timeline no influence has: 1-2-3 Eye Buttons Mystery - Captivate blog ).

I have problems understanding your last paragraph. In the Library there is no folder with buttons normally, it has only folders with assets like Audio, Video, PPT (if linked to one), Images, Shared actions... Buttons are native interactive objects. Maybe you have icons in the Images library folder?  If you can use a glyph (special character in a font family) it will of course remain with the text, but be careful: if you are not using a Typekit font (only available in CP2017) you need to use a websafe font.

Which version do you use (exact number)? You seem to use Breakpoint work flow, not Fluid Boxes, which probably points to a version before 2017. Have you tried grouping?
