Buttons not showing captions

I'm trying to use a shape as a button to show text. Here are the directions I followed:

  1. Add a Text Caption and a Button (or Smart Shapes) to the slide.
  2. Hide the Text Caption from the output. (Not hidden in screenshot below because wanted to show text box on slide).
  3. Select the Button and access the Actions section of the Properties panel.
  4. Select Show from the On Success dropdown list.
  5. Select the Text Caption from the Show dropdown list.

This did not work. I tried with a button and smart shape.

Maybe you didn't Hide in output' but hide on stage (which is the eye button next to the object timeline)?

Careful: the two buttons have the pausing point not at exactly the same location. Did you uncheck the option 'Continue Playing the project'? If you don't do that, the playhead will continue to the next slide when being clicked, since the pausing point is almost at the end of the slide. Have a read:

You're right. I hid it onstage, but not in the output. That fixed it. Thanks also for the heads up about the pause points.

You were the second one in less than one hour to confuse the two eye buttons.

As for the timeline: about half the questions today were caused by not understanding that timeline.
