Buttons on Master Slide-Cp6

I am having a terrible time getting buttons to work consistantly in Master Slides in Cp6. They just don't respond to the directions given to them. They especially don't like to jump to slides. It will usually either restart the current slide or jump to the next slide. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior. It has happened in a couple projects now.

Maybe I'm just doing something wrong???

I'm a bit puzzled, were you talking about shapes used as buttons on Master slides, because normal buttons cannot be inserted on a Master slide at all.

Lilybiri...I am using the Smart shape as a button and then pulling in a custom image so that I have my own smart shape custom button (by going to fill, texture, custom image). That process works fine. These buttons do have a built in state with them. Although there is no over state, there is a down state in which the image shrinks on clicking so that's pretty cool. My process was that I made a .png image in Fireworks and when I insert it as a smart shape, it does get the down state automatically. I can work with that

Aditya...I am using the buttons as navigation, or menu buttons. So for example, I have one that always jumps to slide #3 for the demo and slide #4 for the training. Of course if I am on these slides, they won't go to the slides because they are already there but what I am finding is that a lot of times, when I am on slide #1, they either restart the same slide or go to the next slide. It is very frustrating. I was able to fix it by totally deleting the button and starting over. That's why I wondered if it was a cache issue and keeping the original setting as when I inserted it (although deleting the cache didn't fix it). In other words, I inserted it initially with going to the next slide just to test it and then changed it to jump to a particular slide. Maybe it is holding on to the original information and not updating the code when I make the changes later???

I hope that helps. I think we need to continue to take a look at this because there is definitely something weird going on here. In case it matters, I'm using a Mac.

    Thanks for the comments.

If you are publishing the project and then making some changes and publishing the project again. Just a recommendation, do check the "force re publish all the slides". This ensures that all the changes are updated in the published output. Please check the screenshot :

Is there someplace we can clear the "cache" for Captivate (Cp6)? I think a lot of the problem is that it is holding on to previous information. This is also frustrating with buttons. Once you choose one, you can't get it out of you buttons list. There is no reason we should have to go through buttons that we may have previous used and are no longer in the project. Sometimes you insert them just to see how they work.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I found where to clear the cache but it did remove the unused buttons:

If you want to free up some disk space while Captivate is running, you can use the Clear Cache button in Preferences (Edit (Windows)/Adobe Captivate (Mac) > Preferences > Global > General Settings). When you do so, only those sub folders in the root cache folder that are not being used by any running Captivate instance presently get deleted.

    Aditya,

Can you explain how CP6 allows buttons on Master slides? This is a feature I have been wanting since eons, but AFAIK even in CP6 only shapes used as buttons are possible, with the consequence that they do not have any states like the normal buttons. In previous versions only the Static button widget, with its limited functionalities were possible. Perhaps it is only a 'terminology' issue, but I really want to avoid to confuse other users because I'm confused myself now.

With Buttons i meant using smart shapes as button. I gave answer with reference to smart shapes use as buttons. As you have already mentioned in your previous post, that's why I didnt mentioned it seperately.

I agree with you that we can only use Smart shapes as buttons, which will then give us an option to add action to that.

I also asked the same question to the user, that how is he using buttons on master slide, and then provided my suggestion considering smart shapes used as button.

    Thanks.
