Can I apply transparency to part of a smart shape gradient?

It appears in the gradient color picker that I ought to be able to change transparency.

Alpha 100% in the top right of the color picker window appears editable, but when I change it, before I can close the window something changes it back to 100%. Is this a bug?

I didn't ask if you are on Mac or WIn.

It is a bit tricky sometimes. I rarely type in a field but use the keyboard arrows or SHIFT-arrows to increase or decrease the values. I did see that typing in 0% is not sticking, but I could get down to 0% with the down arrow followed by Enter for confirmation.  Can you try that?

I just tried this on my copy of Captivate and it worked fine. Make sure you are running the latest version to ensure that you are not still running a copy of the software that might contain bugs. The most up to date version is 9.0.2.437.

Which version do you use? I just double-checked on 9.2.437 and it is possible to change the alpha % for any color point on the gradient bar. Have a look at the screenshot:

I have a subscription, and am current, version 9.0.2.437.

I have tried typing 0% or 10, 15%, none of them ‘stick’ tried hit tab after, and tried not hitting tab.
