Can't move objects in timeline - imported file from v1.0 to v2.0

I imported a large Captivate 1.0 file and tried to move object timelines. None of the timelines are locked, yet I can't move anything. When I attempt to move something, the CPU goes to 100% for a while before NOTHING HAPPENS.

So I have a Captivate file that I can't use in 2.0.

By the way, this is my first day using the "upgrade". I'm not impressed so far.

    Hi Larry,

Version 1.0 handles it just fine with existing resources. That tells me that version 2.0 is misusing resources. Besides, it shouldn't take 100% of my CPU to move a text box from 1 second to 2 seconds - not to mention that IT NEVER COMPLETES THE MOVE - instead, just hangs Captivate in perpetual stupor.

And it does it with no trouble if I MANUALLY enter the time.

And I'm not the only one with this problem.

And it doesn't happen with large files that were NOT imported.

Using logic, I'd say that it isn't my system resources.

    Hi benhenny,
    You said ...
    quote:

File size is about 35MB @ 1024x768 and about 120 slides with audio - not sure why that would make a difference.
The reason I asked about the size of the project and image size is because you said CPU was cycling to 100% and that tells me it is trying to handle something that is too great for the available resources. In a nutshell, that's why it would make a difference.

And your answer would indicate a very, very large file - a 1024x768 image is a large image all by itself, and 120 slides - that's just beyond the pale. Your computer isn't locking up - it's choking to death. Of course that's just my opinion, but I think it is based on logic.

Options include paring down the slides to something more like half of that 120 slides, and cutting out the audio. There are a lot of ways you can get the file size low enough to finish editing it, but your users' machines are also going to be taxed when they try to play the published movie ...

It's the full 2.0 version. I imported a 1.0 file, but I can't do anything with the timeline. I can manually enter times for elements in its properties, but I can't drag anything anywhere.

I've had that problem a lot in Captivate 2. I have to right click and choose 'send back' to push it down a layer or double click the layer to choose a different time for how long it will be on screen. Very frustrating !

Happens with some small files and large files, the objects on the timeline just refuse to be moved or shortened.

How large is the Captivate 1 file? In pixels? In slides? In digital size of the CP?

What "upgrade" are you referring to? To Captivate 2 or to Captivate 3?

Be careful because Captivate 3 is available for trial download now, so if you got the upgrade that way, it is likely you are skipping two versions, not one as you thought, and I don't think Captivate 3 was designed with any emphasis on converting Captivate 1 projects, so ...

    Thanks for more info.
