Question

Cp9 quiz buttons changed (next to skip)

I just made the switch from Cp7 to Cp9 and when I load my course in Cp9 the buttons on the quizzes are different. The "next" button has changed to "skip". Also, there are two new "forward" and "backward" buttons as well. I really don't want to have to go into each and every course and change all the quiz questions individually (I have over 100 courses). Is there a global setting that I can choose to edit this on a global level? Or some way to load the file as I had it before? Has anyone else come across this problem? Thank you in advance for the support.

This is one of the improvements of CP9. In CP 7 the 'Next' button has a double functionality:

    • During the Quiz attempts it acted as Skip button, if the user clicked it the answer was not submitted but skipped. That confusion has now gone, because it is a Skip button with only that function.
    • During Review the Next button acted as real Next button. In CP9 that is now the button with ">>", and you also have automatically a back button "<<" during review, even though you don't provide that back button during quiz.

What do you want to do now?  You cannot rename the Skip button to Next button, because it doesn't have that functionality. If you want you can change the "<<"  and ">>" to Next and Back, it is just changing the text on the Quiz master slides, same work flow as in CP7. You never had to change each individual slide since themes appeared with CP6.

Thanks for that information. I do see the potential issues by having the next act like a skip, but we were able to control that by simply requiring users in the settings to have to answer each quiz question. They were not able to skip the question then.

So the big question for me then is: is there a way in any global quiz settings to set it so that the "back" and "skip" buttons are unchecked by default? Because as it is right now, when we created our CP7 courses, we had the "next" and skip/back" buttons on the right. But now, when we open them so we can publish it in 9, they not only have the new "next" and "back" arrows on the left, but the former "next" and "back" buttons are now there too but they say "next" and "skip." It is confusing and messy. I understand we can manually go to each quiz slide and uncheck the "back" and "skip" from the settings, so they do not show. But we have over 100 courses and our courses are hundreds of slides each with 40 - 120 questions in each. So I don't want to spend all of that time doing that per slide. Hopefully there is a way to simply change what shows by default. Does that make sense?

    Thanks for any additional help.

Sorry to sound like the devil's advocate but I would never advice to change the 'Required' field in Quiz Preferences. It can cause so many problems with navigation and blocking users. I learned this by exploring Quizzes quite a lot for my blog, and by answering thousands of questions on these forums and on social media. There are other, less dangerous ways of forcing the user to answer a question (by taking out the Skip button).

The answer to your question depends on what you are really seeing on the quiz master slides? Do you see all those buttons that you mention? Normally you can select all the quiz slides in the Filmstrip and uncheck the Skip and Back button in the Quiz Properties panel. The common Properties are shown in that panel. Selecting slides in the filmstrip that are in sequence can be done with the SHIFTclick buttonon the last slide for selecting, for non-sequential you need to use the CTRL in combination with clicks.

However I am puzzled: why would the Back button change its label to skip? Reason I asked to check the master slides.
