Hello,

To really get the most out of Captivate I find that I need use Javascript a lot.

However, the little Javascript editing window that Captivate provides it pathetic. It cannot be resized and is basically just a big text box with no editing features.

What I would kill for is the ability for Captivate to utilise an external text editor from within Captivate. (A feature available in just about every other application on the planet)

The external editor I use is Notepad++, and it would be great to have the ability to use that instead of the tiny little Captivate Javascript box, and to be able to use Notepad++ to edit my Javascript library directly from CP.

If anyone knows of a way to do this it would be great to hear about it.

(I could ask Adobe to put it in the next version of Captivate, but I'm not going to bother, as based on the evidence of these forums the change requests that people have submitted to Adobe are more often that not ignored.)

Cheers.

Peter.

It would be nice to have a full featured code editor within Cp... or to call Notepad++ (I use that too!).  I do what Rod has suggested and it's the 2nd best alternative to having a full featured code editor within Cp.  And I agree, I highly doubt it would get enough attention as a feature request, but it's still worth putting in.  If you do, put a link to it and I'll up vote it!

    Jim,

I also use an external library, but its still a pain to have a major component of CP outside of CP.

I  used the likn at  Feature Request/Bug Report Form   to suggest the external editor.

Will the suggestion appear on a list somewhere?

    Peter.

Yes it will appear on a list somewhere...in the Adobe Captivate Development Team's network.  But it's not going to be a list you'll ever get to see.

The JavaScript window was never intended to be a full-featured coding app.

There is no way to use an external code editor instead of the default JavaScript window.

But many other threads on this forum have discussed how to have your own JS library or file included with Captivate by default.  If you do that then you can edit that file in your code editor of choice very easily, altering the code without even opening Captivate most times.  If you have all your functions in that JS library, you can then easily just call the functions from the JavaScript window.

I realise this is not going to be exactly how you may want to work, but choosing not to submit an enhancement request for a better way to edit JS code in future isn't going to make it happen any sooner.
