I have a sound file that I want to trigger with a button and not play when the timeline starts. I know there is a way to do that, but don't know what it is.

Do not add the audio to the slide, but use one of these techniques:

    1. Attach the action 'Play Audio' to that button, and point to the audio clip (it has to be recorded, you can have it in Library or elsewhere)
    2. Attach the audio to an object that is 'invisible' to the user (like a shape without a fill or stroke); this will allow you to record to that object. Then make that object invisible in output (click on the eye icon top left of the Properties). The button will need the action 'Show object'. When the object appears audio will play.
