Hi guys,
despite how I say it or display it in slides, users don't read the instructions before the quiz. This results in them doing the quiz and then asking me why they scored zero when they answered all the questions. So my question is, how can I disable/deactivate/grey-out the Next button until a user clicks Submit after answering the question?
I've got Captivate 6.1 on a Windows platform.
Advice appreciated.
Carl
Lateral thinking again. Remove the Clear button by deselecting the Clear option in the slide's Quiz Properties tab, and then turn it on again. The button last added to the slide will be at the top level. In this way you can control the order and place the Clear button on top of the Next button.

Hide the next button underneath the Clear button. The Clear button disappears during Quiz Review. That's the only time you really need that Next button.

Hello Rod,
thanks for your answer - I should think more laterally in future.
In my testing, another question has arisen - how do I get the Next button behind the Clear button? It sounds stupid but I can't get the Next button behind the Clear. I go in to the Master Slide, click on Next to highlight it, and then move it either by the mouse or with the arrow button so that it sits under the Clear button. While Next is still highlighted I click on the button in the toolbar 'Send selected objects backward' to be sure, so that I see 'Clear'. When I go back to the Filmstrip, all I see is 'Next' and when I preview the slides all I see is 'Next' - what am I missing here? What have I failed to do? What am I not understanding?
Advice appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks Rod and Lilybiri,
between the two of you I was able to resolve my problem and also prevent them in future quizzes. All is well, I'm happy and importantly my users have a better, and less irritating, quiz (now why can't they-Adobe-put that into their Help manual?).
Cheers

Thanks, Carl, couldn't agree more about the Help, already mentioned lack of that kind of information a lot of times to the team.

In the default ranking (leaving all buttons on question slides) Clear is on top of Next, but if you unchecked the Next button, and then reactivated it, it will indeed be on top of the others.
Instead of changing in all the question master slides (if you use different question types, you should edit all of them), I find it easier to change the place of the buttons on one slide, and use the curved arrow, top right of the Transformation accordion to apply this to all objects of same type (not style, because same style is used for all question buttons). The location will then be changed on all question slides...

Carl, Rod's answer would have been also mine, but if you want some more information about question/score slides, and ways to tweak them, check:
http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate
http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-part-2
Those articles were written before 6, but except the possibility now to have shape buttons on question slides, most of the content is still valid.

Hi, all. I found this thread on a search as I want to do the same thing. I think this is an elegant workaround and this is how I'll do it from now on. However, I have a distinct recollection in the past of creating a quiz where the next button was very obviously greyed-out and inactive until the quiz review. I've tried all kinds of settings to recreate this and just cannot find it. Can anybody put me out of my misery?

I think that was due to the Quiz Setting > Required > being set to something that meant the user could only go to the Next slide if they had answered correctly.

Quiz - settings - required "The user must take the quiz to continue" doesn't do it.

Try the options below that. E.g. Answer All - The user must answer every question to continue.

That's the one. I can sleep at night now. And I have an appointment booked at the optician 😉
