How to create forced navigation in Captivate 12

Hi there. We recently moved over to Captivate 12 and I was trying to set up the navigation in our projects the way we had it in Captivate Classic, with the Next button appearing at the end of narration upon first visit only, and then appearing right away on slide revisit. I reached out to Adobe and although they tried to provide support, the steps and instruction I received were not correct and did not achieve the functionality I was going for.

In order to document my solution for the rest of our team, I created a Captivate project that demonstrates the soution with the buttons and includes instructions for how to do this in your own projects in the tabbed widget on the first page. Unfortunately, I'm not able to upload the project to a web server to share it with you, so I've included screenshots of the project with the instructions in a PDF.

Hope this helps someone! Let me know if you have any questions.

Mary

Thanks for your suggestion. Personally I don't like Forcing learners to do anything especially if they are adults, but that is my past as professor speaking. Indeed, I have proposed a lot of that type of workflows as solution in Classic Captivate, which are a lot more elegant than what the new version needs. Most is linked to the disappearance of master slides, advanced and shared actions. Here is one example:

The shared action used there can easily be reused in any project, in CP12 you have to restart from scratch in each new project.

BTW you can upload an example of the project in the eLearning community:

Thank you for your input @Lilybiri! As you mention, this type of navigation isn't for everyone.I agree that Captivate Classic handled this in a more elegant manner.

I shared this for those who , like me, do want/need to implement this type of navigation and need to do it in Captivate 12.

Thanks also for the tip on sharing the project! I'll check that out for next time.

Best,

Mary
