Question

How to do Audio Buttons or Hover Messages ?

We use a lot of audio prompts and instructions.

1 - Any way to get Captivate to play an audio clip when you hover over something... or click something?

2 - Also, any way to get something to 'lite up' or 'change color' when you pass the mouse over it ?

Thanks for any help.

    Hi Will_3

Mouseover audio is pretty easy. Just create a simple image. Perhaps a swatch of solid color. Then insert a Rollover Image and point at the swatch. Make the swatch transparent when you insert it. Then attach audio to the image via the Audio tab. The net effect is that you mouseover, the image appears (but is invisible) and the audio clip plays. You can accomplish pretty much the same effect for the mouseover shading by again using a Rollover image.

A button sound effect can occur a couple of ways. You could insert an object on a slide with an audio clip attached to it. Then leave the button at its default setting of continue. User clicks and the sound plays. Another way is to edit the button properties and attach a feedback caption. Specifically, the OnSuccess caption. Again, you would make the caption transparent and attach audio to the invisible caption..

Hopefully something here was helpful... Rick

    Hello,

I'm using Captivate 2. I created a transparent button on top of an image and then I recorded audio on the button. I want users to click a button to hear the audio.

When I look at the button properties, the audio is there. When I look at the slide's properties, the audio is not there. However, when I play the slide, the audio starts immediately. And clicking the button has no effect. The button is set to "continue" on success.

Do you know what might be wrong?

Also, on a related note about buttons... I want to include a url on a slide that will launch a new web browser. I didn't see a way to hyperlink text, so instead I created a transparent button on top of the text that upon success opens a new web browser. This works great within Captivate, but when I publish to Flash, clicking the button doesn't do anything.

    Thanks for your help!

Hi Lila and welcome to our community

Personally, I would use Click Box objects as opposed to Buttons. They are more flexible.

Here's how to get your audio to play. Double click the Button and look at the button properties. Click the Options tab and place a check mark in the Success Caption check box. This will provide a caption that will appear once the user clicks the button. If you don't wish to actually SEE the caption, just double-click it and configure it to transparent and provide no text. While editing the Success caption, note you see an Audio tab. Right here is where you assign the audio.

After you publish to Flash, if you are running your project locally, you might find the link seems not to work. The following link should help with that.
