Is it possible to create a pop up text box on a multi-state object?

Question

Hi - does anyone have a workaround please for the best way to do this in Captivate9 with a responsive project?

I have base text on a slide, and have two separate pop ups, created with 2 click boxes over a text area, and shared actions so that only one shows at a time, it closes (hides) with a click box, and the user can then click the text to open the second. The pop up texts are also hidden on entry to the slide with shared actions.

However, I now need to create a pop up speech bubble on top of the first pop up (essentially a dictionary definition for a word), which can't show at any other time.

I tried to create a multi-state object for the base text and run it through this way, but I still can't create the dictionary pop up as you can't add an interaction to a multi-state object to open the speech bubble. Ideally I would have liked a rollover caption to appear but this isn't possible with responsive project I believe.

Any advice gratefully received - I'm fairly new to all this!

Rollovers are not supported for responsive projects.

This means that you need to click to show the 'popup'. Clicking can be done on an interactive object: a shape button, a normal button. Shape buttons and normal buttons have Inbuilt states (Normal, Rollover and Down) but you can add custom states as well. You can have a look at this post where I used such a custom state to show the status of toggle buttons:

You have a click box instead of a shape button or even a hyperlink (because that is the quickest way to turn text into something that can trigger an action: More is in a...hyperlink - Close button - Captivate blog ).

That click box is already executing an action, you have to decide when the 'bubble' has to appear? Rollover is not possible, the Success event of the click box is already taken, do you want that bubble to appear some time later automatically? In that case you can use the 'Delay Next Command...' available in CP9. If you want two different actions for that same click box, you could either use two click boxes on top of each other, where the first click box is being hidden by itself, the second shown by the action with the first click box. In that case the second click box could show the speech bubble, then hide itself and show the first click box again. Or you can use a tracking variable and create a conditional action with two decisions.

I think the easiest way would be to use a hyperlink in the text to show the speech bubble.
