Keyboard shortcuts not working on Mac

I'm using Captivate 9 on a Macbook Air running OSX El Capitan. I've been using it on Windows for a while as well. I've run into a bit of difficulty. When doing a software simulation, the default to stop it is Cmd-Enter. However, this combination does nothing. I changed it to something else and that did work.

My bigger problem, however, is that when I select an object that I wish to delete, and then press the delete key, I get a sound but nothing else happens. I can right-click the object and select delete from the context menu, and that works. In the context menu, it shows the delete key as a shortcut.

I tried renaming the folder in ~/library/preferences, and let Captivate recreate it, but no luck. (I saw this method in a thread referring to v6).

Any thoughts? This is really slowing me down.

    The Cmd-Enter may be a conflict with Apple's default "Global Keyboard Shortcuts."

    As for the delete key, here are the reserved keys using Delete:

    Option-DeleteDelete the word to the left of the insertion point.
    Control-HDelete the character to the left of the insertion point. Or use Delete.
    Control-DDelete the character to the right of the insertion point. Or use Fn-Delete.
    Fn-DeleteForward delete on keyboards that don't have a Forward Delete key. Or use Control-D.
    Control-KDelete the text between the insertion point and the end of the line or paragraph.
    Command-DeleteSelect Delete or Don't Save in a dialog that contains a Delete or Don't Save button.

    You can use the options within System Preferences to disable shortcuts that conflict.

    Here's Apple's guidance for creating and disabling shortcuts:

    Note:   You can create keyboard shortcuts only for existing menu commands. You cannot define keyboard shortcuts for general purpose tasks such as opening an app or switching between apps.

    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Keyboard, then click Shortcuts.
    2. Select the action in the list that you want to change.
    3. Double-click the current shortcut, then press the new key combination you want to use.You cannot use each type of key (for example, a letter key) more than once in a key combination.
    4. Quit and restart any apps you’re using for the new keyboard shortcut to take effect.

    If you assign a keyboard shortcut that already exists for another command or another app, your new shortcut won’t work. Find the menu command that’s using it, then reassign the keyboard shortcut for that item.

    To disable a shortcut, deselect the checkbox next to its description in the list.

    If you want to return all the shortcuts to their original key combinations, click Restore Defaults.
