LMS not Recording Completions

Hi, everyone:

I have created a 45 minute training that has caused issues because the LMS does not record completion for some folks once they get to the end.  Thankfully, 99% of the time, users are marked complete with no problem.  However, the audience is large and 1% affects quite a few people.

Since there is no quiz, I have the completion criteria set to 125 (out of 129) slide views.  Due to branching, it's possible to not hit every single slide.  Some people have gone back into the course only to discover they are dumped back on slide 1.  It's painful to hear of people spending 3 hours taking the course repeatedly trying to get that completion status, and then not having a proper solution.

Has anyone come across a similar issue and have suggestions on how to fix this?

This may NOT be what you want to hear but a 45 minute lesson is way too long.  You probably would NOT be experiencing these issues if you broke your current module up into smaller ones.  The LMS may not be recording completion due to time-outs or (if using SCORM 1.2) because the Resume Data required for your project is overloading the small amount allocated for it in the SCORM standard.

Rather than basing completion on the number of slides viewed, why don't you place a button on one of the slides near the end of the module and set it to have a score that reports to the Quiz (even though there is no quiz).  Then all the users have to do in order to achieve completion is click that button when they get to that slide.  This is a much more preferable solution for any project that has branching.

If it's painful for you to HEAR about people spending 3 hours trying to achieve completion, imagine what it's like for them.

Thanks for your quick reply, Rod.  I wholeheartedly agree that 45 minutes is too long, but there are other factors in play which determined the path we took.  Yes, we are using SCORM 1.2.   I will try the "quiz" completion button idea on the next go around.
