LMS with SCORM 1.2 Browser but no data handling?

Hi Guys,

I am creating Captivate 7 content for my work LMS (Firefly) and was happy to see a tool to insert SCORM 1.2 content names "SCORM Browser".

I created a basic SCORM 1.2 compliant quiz and managed to get it to run on the LMS as their documentation:

http://help.fireflylearning.com/teachers-and-staff/pages-and-content/creating-page-content/adding-scorm

However I could not find where the results / data from the user ended up and so contacted their support team. I was told "We don't pass this data over at all. We simply 'present' SCORM content, and all marks are derived from Firefly-created tests and forms".

Is this a case of crossed wires do you think? As I assume the whole purpose of having SCORM 1.2 functionality is to allow content to pass variables back and forth with the LMS? Seems odd to have it as an import tool but then not offer its main advantage / purpose.

If indeed the LMS does not offer any more functionality than essentially embedding the content, will there be any other way to communicate scores such as email? Or am I essentially now restricted to embedded content with no data handling?

Thanks

As you have just discovered, not all LMSs are created equal.  Some LMSs are capable of handling much more of the data the SCORM was designed to allow to be transmitted from a course SCO.  A truly SCORM-compliant LMS would be capable of accepting and storing ALL of the course data in its database.  If your LMS only provides the functionality of delivering the course content but does not allow scoring and interaction data to be stored, then its NOT a true SCORM-compliant LMS.  If you want this functionality, get another LMS.
