More than three smart shape buttons on master slide?

Hi all,

Hope someone can help me,

I would like to place 8 smartshape buttons on my master slide

Every button directs to another slide really simple..

works great, super easy!

but.. when I exceed the number of 3 'smartshape buttons' on the master slide,

when previewing, the whole project is blank until it reaches slide two.

I tried several simple blank projects but the problem keeps happening.

I can put multiple smart shapes on the master slide but as soon as I check more than 3 shapes as being a button

the preview shows a totally white screen, if I uncheck till there are only 3 'buttons' left , the preview is fine. 

Does anyone know a solution for this?

I want to test it: is this in a blank or a responsive project? If it is a responsive project, are the shape buttons in a fluid box on the master slide? Are you talking about the main master slide or a daughter master slide?

it is just a blank project

on the 1blank daughter slide I think (it is under the theme slide) 

it looks like the problem is in te hint section.

What I do is use the hint function on every button..

if i exceed the number of 3 hint buttons on the master slide i get a white screen.

I just wanted to make a mouse over function (with a picture instead of a text)

just tried a project without hint's:

new blank project, 6 slides every slide had a numer 1 to 6

on the master slide I put  6 smart shapes every shape a button linking to one of the six pages

 hand cursor on and paus project until user clicks.

project shows blank on preview. then if you delete 3 of the six smart shapes from the master slide

the preview works fine again.

I sounds ridiculous..

but the things i can do is:

3 smart shape buttons with a hint works well, adding a 4th gives a white screen in preview

4 smart shape buttons without a hint works also, adding a 5th gives a white screen in preview

I created a blank project with 7 slides, duplicated the Blank master slide, added 7 shape buttons which each navigate to a slide. I turned on Hand cursor, Pause and Hint. Everything works fine with F11, Preview HTML5 in Browser when I test in Chrome. For normal projects all other preview methods use Flash. When I use one of those, the shape buttons do not appear as you pointed out. This means it is a problem for SWF output in Chrome, under Win10. It is not the only problem on my system (have some hotfixes installed in this version, it isn't the orignal release). Effects are not working as expected neither.

Tomorrow I'll fire up another system, with the original version of CP2017 to see if the result is the same. You may have found a bug.

Do you intend to publish to HTML5 or to SWF?

Thank you for testing it out for me!

It seems to be a little bug, Adobe send me a hotfix for the problem and now ik works fine.

I have the same trouble viewing the swf output in chome but I am going to publish in html 5

so it will work out.

The only problem i have left is when press f11 and there's no Chrome browser already open,

so captivate has to start the browser, I get a black screen and the browser crashes completely.

If I publish to computer and start the project everything works fine.

I hope to here from Adobe if there is a solution for this little problem

Here's what Adobe sent us and I can confirm it works—our projects (both native to CP10 and converted from CP9) work again:

1. Download the hotfix zip from the following location: https://www.dropbox.com/s/oqxqhlzecc5j5ap/hotfix2017.zip?dl=0

2. Unzip the folder.
3. Backup the following files (and folder) from the Captivate installation directory (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 2017 x64):

1. CPPublic.dll
2. CPPublish.dll
3. CPHTMLPublish.dll
4. sdk folder

4. Copy the downloaded contents from the unzipped folder and replace them in the Adobe Captivate 2017 installation folder

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 2017 x64.

5. Reset the preferences by running the “CleanPreferencesWin.bat” file from “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 2017 x64\utils”
6. Now, launch the Captivate 2017 release and verify the fix.

Hope it helps others until Adobe officially rolls it out in an update.

Hello, I've added your hotfix files and the buttons do show up and work now when I publish (HTML) though preview mode does not show any buttons whatsoever. When I try to preview the file I get the error: "Swf compilation failed..." though I am not even publishing to a swf. So what does that mean? I did troubleshoot that error to make sure I didnt have any wierd variable names in my actions or duplicate object names.

Also, I had to have my buttons on the first master slide, I could not have them on the film strip 1st slide and timed for rest of project like I would normally do with a set of custom interface buttons that are used throughout an entire course.

Only Smart Shape buttons can be added to Master Slides or timed on normal slides for Rest Of Project.  Are you sure these 'custom interface buttons' you mention are actually Smart Shape buttons and not one of the three other types of buttons Captivate offers?

If you are previewing by just hitting Control + Enter or similar then that IS using SWF output, even if your intended final publishing will be HTML5.

So, there may be something fouling up SWF output but not HTML5.

We are having the same problem—had 9 of these buttons in our CP9 projects that all broke when we went to CP10. Martijn, are you willing to upload the hotfix to Dropbox or Google Drive or somewhere so we can download as well? (Waiting on Adobe as well.)
