Rotate an object - Jigsaw puzzle

Hello

I amnhoping someone will be able to help point me in the right direction.

I am working on a maths jigsaw which is made up of a number of traingles. Each side of the triangle has either a sum or an answer on it and the objective is for the learner to match the sum to the correct answer, forming a final shape upon completion.

The initial build was straightforward as I created it as a simple drag and drop exercise with placeholders for the learner.

Following this, the client has asked if we can add a rotation feature so that learners can spin the triangles around in order to add another level of difficulty to the puzzle.

I am stumped on how to begin with this (or whether it is even possible)

I am using Adobe Captivate 9

Any ideas?

You can rotate objects in Captivate with the effect Rotate to... I never tried it in combination with a Drag&Drop exercise however, wonder if it is possible using the Object actions in D&D. It would be an interesting exploration, will see if I can find some free time... Can you offer some more details? Maybe post some screenshots. I suspect that rotation will be limited to certain angles?

thanks for getting back to me.

The premise of the puzzle came from one of our maths tutors who has cut out traingle pieces that can be placed to form a giant hexagon with the sums and answers matching up.

Below is my recreation using captivate:

This is a simple drag and drop interaction in which the learner can drag the shapes onto the drop targets until they are all placed correctly.

The tutor wants the learners to be able to rotate the triangles in order to focus on the maths element rather than just placing the shapes until they stumble into the correct answer.

I have had a go at achieving the rotation through state changes and adding a button to the triangle (blue circle)

and whilst this will rotate the triangle, the drag and drop function will not recognise the button so it will not travel with the traingle when placed into the drop target.

I hope that gives a little more detail to the project and clears up what I am trying to achieve.

An interactive object can never be a drag sourse (nor a drop target), only static objects can be used.

This means you only have to rotate the shape 180°. That could lead to having the text upside down, is that a problem?

What about this scenario: user can drag an upside triangle to a downside triangle and it will be rotated after releasing the drag source? Is that acceptable? If he drags a triangle that has the same form as the drop target, no rotation happens. This means that the user will not rotate the triangle himself, but it will be rotated when released over a target that has not the same form. This could be realized easily with the object actions. I suspect that the wrong drag actions are not corrected immediately, but that all drag operations are allowed?
