Several Caption Questions: Click Box Failure Captions + Custom Software Simulation Captions

Hello,  I've recently come across two unrelated questions having to deal with captions in Adobe Captivate 2019.

First is regarding a Click Box interaction I have set up.  I have enabled the Failure caption for this box but when I preview the project, it does not appear when clicking outside of the Click Box.  If I enable hint or success captions, these do appear correctly.  Just curious if there might be a setting or something I am overlooking?

Next is for the software simulation feature.  I've noticed the captions used for these do not have the same formatting options available as a normal text entry or smart shape.  Unfortunately the included caption styles are not completely on brand for my company and so I will need to create custom captions.  I don't know if I'm just missing one but I cannot seem to find any sort of online guide / article on this process.  I looked into the .../Gallery/Captions/ folder and noticed each caption has a series of .bmp and .fcm files but really not sure where to go from that in terms of modifying an existing one or creating a new one.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated!

About your first question: do you have any other interactive object on the slide? Is this a non-responsive project?

Second question: it is indeed bit confusing. Default setup for feedback messages is to use shapes instead of captions. But for software simulations it is the reverse. You can edit both, but not in the same location:

  • For all but software sims: Preferences, Defaults
  • For software sims: Preferences, Recording, Modes.

Personally I change immediately the setting for software sims, to use shapes instead of captions, globally (before opening any project). I don't like to create custom captions at all.

I have been explaining this somewhere when writing about themes and object styles in my blog.

Lilybiri,

Sorry for delay in my reply.  You absolutely hit the nail on the head with the second question/answer.  That setting was exactly what I was looking for.  Don't know why such a major setting would be so tucked away!

For the first question, this is not a responsive project and I do have a 'few' other things going on the slide.  Its actually a little tricky in that I essentially homebrewed a software sim assessment within an existing slide.  I've actually managed to clear up most of the issues I was having on this slide except one.  Normally when I configure a button to also pause audio while paused, the audio would resume when the project did.  while making this slide I was running into an issue where the audio would no longer resume with the project after being paused.  further testing shows that this is not unique to this slide and in fact past slides that were working without issue have the same issue where audio does not resume after being paused.  has an update come out recently that might be causing this change to existing work?  if it helps I am running Captivate 2019 release 11.0.0.243.

Thanks

Please update to 11.0.1.266.

Slide audio can be paused by a pausing point, unless it is on a question slide or a D&D slide. Have been blogging a lot about timeline and audio.

Try first to update and get back if the issue is still the same. Please post some screenshots in that case.
