Is there a way to import flash into captivate and it still be able to call external files (ie. sound, video xml)? When I import flash into captivate it will not call any external file.

Tried it on my work PC here this morning, but still no joy. If I download your original zip file (2.3 mb) I get a message stating that it doesn't contain any files. If I download the last version you uploaded (235 kb) I get a message saying that the zip archive is corrupted. I think perhaps the forum here is messing up the zip files.

Try and mail me the attachments to admin (at) captivate4.com instead and I'll take a look at it.

Just to follow up on this. I recieved the files from Marcus on email and the problem was that the Flash file was using ActionScript 3 (AS3) and Captivate 3 does not support AS3 Flash files.

That is why it wouldn't work as intended.

Thats no problem at all. Captivate doesn't care if your Flash files uses external resources so you are (for the most part) free to do what you want in Flash.

The error that 95.6% of the people do when they import these things into Flash is that they don't move the external files to the directory where your Captivate movie gets published to. Once you publish your project from Captivate it only deals with the files that it knows exists - therefore any external files like xml, mp3, flv, wav whatever will not be moved there automatically. Move them manually and it should work.

If it still doesn't work then the problem most likely is in your ActionScript linkage to the dependant files. Make sure your paths are correct.

Lastly, if the above two doesn't help you then try and set the publish settings in Captivate to "Externalize animations" provided that you have Captivate 4. This can sometime sort out some weird errors.

Indeed... I've heard that 83.5% of ALL statistics are totally made up on the spot!

    That's very true Rick

However, according to recent surveys, 76.5% of.....

I just know it's the absolute biggest problem when it comes to Flash files and external files. I know that I myself have forgotten to move the required files the published directory quite a few times.

Marcus, I don't believe that Captivate can do a two-level file call.  You'd either have to package your external files into the Flash file before importing or fake it by synching the audio in Captivate to the Flash movie.

    Hi all

Wow, I was so hoping fellow Adobe Community Expert Paul Dewhurst would pop in on this thread.

Why? Well, Paul sent me a way cool gizmo a while back that hacked the Info button. It used an external file for some of the information! So somehow Paul managed to sort what it took to insert a Flash object into Captivate and have that object extract data from an externally located file.

    Cheers... Rick
