Printing Certificate upon Passing a Quiz

Like some other posters, I'm trying to print a completion certificate at the end of a quiz. I went to Quiz > Quiz Preferences > Pass or Fail, and in the 'If passing grade section', I selected the action 'Open URL or file' and inserted the file name in the "URL' box. On a prior quiz, these settings worked, but not on a new quiz I'm developing. The only difference I can see is that the new quiz is using a question pool--does anyone know why using a pool would prevent these settings from working? Thanks.

The problem's fixed--I'm almost embarassed to admit it, but it was something simple--the display time of my final screen was set for too long of a duration, so it appeared that I wasn't getting the proper results, but I would have if I'd waited long enough. As they say, timing is everything!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post--it's nice to have a community to bounce ideas off.

By any chance are you testing your files directly from your PC and/or seeing a Flash Player security warning when opening the published output?

When testing quizzes locally, I sometimes get the security warning and things don't work as expected. When testing the published files from a web server, where security restrictions are lessened, I don't have any problems.

Aside from that, if you are willing and have a way to make your Captivate file available, I'm sure some folks here would be happy to take a look and see if they can spot what might be going wrong.

Hi ghallenbeck,
I've been out of touch but am back now - sorry to leave you hanging. It seems that absolutely nothing you try is working and that is strange ... but my first thought is that it might all be connected to a single problem. Rather than jbradley88 or myself or anyone else trouble-shooting in the dark, why not take his/her suggestion and upload the file.

I have plenty of storage capacity, and a http uploader, so if you contact me directly I will give you the link to that, and I will be happy to take a look at your CP file and email the results back to you. All I ask is that you include a link to this thread in your email, and report back here with the results (if I am able to help) so they can be shared with others in the community.

Have a good day...
regards~

Oh, what fun...still working on the same quiz and failing grandly. Tried several suggestions from the topic "Printing Certificates" with no luck. I'm no longer trying to open the certificate as a separate file, but added a slide to the end of the quiz and pasted the certificate there. As suggested, in the Quiz > Quiz Preferences > Pass or Fail menu, I set the 'If passing grade' action to 'Jump to slide', but after I complete the quiz, the certificate slide isn't being jumped to. Also, my quiz result pass message doesn't show up on the score slide (the fail message does, though).

Also, I tried one of the print.swfs from raisingaimee to print the certificate, but nothing happens.

Any help with these issues would be immensely appreciated. Thanks.

I wonder about a jump to the PDF document by entering an absolute address (URL). I am talking about something like:

http://www.mywebsite.com/trainingdoc.pdf

Would that work?
best wishes~

Addendum: Today I wrote a virtual "book" on how to include a certificate as a part of a Captivate project. That post was the first post in this forum when you started this thread ... is there a reason the information in that (lengthy) post will not work for you?

To repeat your description, ghallenbeck. " ... I selected the action 'Open URL or file' and inserted the file name in the "URL' box .... Can you please be specific - you do not need to include the name of the file, but - what type of document was it, exactly where is it located, and does the name have "spaces", capital letters, or unusual characters such as \ & # etc.?

I agree that the existence of a question pool is probably not causing the problem - so you can count me among those who don't know why it would " prevent these settings from working" .... or otherwise be involved as a part of the problem. I am fairly sure the cause lies elsewhere.

Thanks for responding. The file is a pdf document and it's name only includes lower case letters and an underscore--no special characters. As for your post on including a certificate, I couldn't get that to work either, but I'll read it again--I probably missed something. Thanks.
