Antivirus File Exclusion List

Unfortunately there's no list afaik on files that need to be excluded from real-time scanners. However, based from my experiences working on websites and some servers, and some of this may be applicable to Breeze servers too, I usually check time stamps on files on which files are accessed often [read / write] as well as system files and DLLs that the server needs and exclude this from scan list.

From my observations and understanding of virus and common antivirus applications, real time scans automatically scan a file if it needs to be written on or read, and this sometimes causes some sharing violations or system lags, if you could target specific folders or files with your AV, then the time stamps on when the file was last modified last would help you determine which files you can exclude.

Generally though, speaking from a virus vs. antivirus perspective, most SWFs, FLVs as well as readable text files, such as XMLs, are safe from viruses but can get corrupted by virus, some DLLs and BINs can get infected with some advanced virus and / or trojans but only if they are common Windows / OS DLLs that virus creators specifically target aimed at disabling the OS itself. HTML, DOC, XLS and PPT files can be infected with common spyware or hijacking trojans, and of course, executables of any kind would also be common targets to virus.

Perhaps this information would be a good start on your exclusion list, if you've got more ideas, I'd like to hear from them and maybe I can find out more.
