OS X Yosemite: ADE 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 all crash upon opening

Is this a Yosemite thing? Has anyone else experienced this? If you fixed it, what did you do? Is there a bit of the error log that I can copy and paste in here to help diagnose? Is this just going to get fixed in the next few days?

I'm not 100% sure it's caused by Yosemite because I hadn't used ADE for many weeks prior to the update, but it's the only major thing I can think of that's changed.

In the mean time, is there any other program that can open .acsm files on a Mac running Yosemite?

I have had issues with this software as well. It's almost as if B&N and Adobe have agreed to never get this software working so that you have to buy books rather than digital borrow from the library. Does not say much for either company when they cannot get the software working for their customers. Frustrated user here.

Having the same problem here on multiple Macs.  All versions of Adobe Digital Editions crash when opening any library e-book licence .acsm files.

Have tried on Macs running OS X 10.9 and 10.10.

This is pretty bad.

    I tried drjardine's workaround with a newly installed ADE 4.0.2, via "Add to library" and selecting the .ascm file, and clicking "open" or whatever the "okay" button says. It crashed just before opening the book.

    Any news on when a new fixed version will be out?

      I managed to do a work around, as crashing every time meant I was not able to read my books. I uninstalled ADE 4.0 and installed an older version, 3.0. Then when I downloaded the books, I did not doubleclick on the ascm file. Instead, I opened ADE and selected Library > Add file. I found the ascm file in the folder then added it to the library. This was successful. I then opened the book in ADE library. I'm doing all of this on a MacBook Air with borrowed books from the public library.

      It is unfortunate that ADE4 kept crashing for you. I will strongly recommend you to use ADE4 as it comes up some good features and support for epub3 format.

      Regarding the crash issue, We are working on addressing this issue in coming releases.

      As I suggested before, If ADE crashes on for you on launch. Please open any other epub/pdf file directly and ADE should work fine then.

      I have ADE set as the default to open ASCM files, but whether I open them by clicking on the file or by opening ADE first, it still crashes.

        AE keeps crashing on my computer as well.  Help please!!  It crashes when I try to open a acsm file... I have tried many books and the same thing happens.

            Can you please share some details about the crash you are facing?

            Does ADE4.0 crashes on all the "acsm" files you open? or some particular one only?

            Did you try to open any other e-book? If no, I will suggest that you right click on the book and open it with ADE4.0 and see if it works?

            Hi Chirag, the App is immediately crashing after start lauching. I dont see any window. I double Click the App and I get just the the crash-report.

            It will be really helpful if you could share the crash logs with us.

            You can find crashlogs in "Console" app.

            In Console App, you need to click on the "User Diagnostic Reports" in the left sidebar and then there you will find report for ADE (something like "Adobe Digital Editions_<date>_<machine-name>.crash".

            I can confirm this problem with the latest OS x version of ADE and Yosimite. Does Adobe have any answer for this? Is there some other means to contact them?

              I'm having the same problem. I have Mavericks and I've downloaded ADE 4.0, which crashes immediately when I try to open a book that I've borrowed from the library. This is very frustrating as I've been using ADE on a Mac for a few years now with no problems. My current computer is new as of this summer.

              Does anyone from Adobe actually monitor these forums and try to help or are we on our own?

                I just downloaded ADE 4.0 and I am having the same problem. Every time I click on my ebook, it just crashes. Not so glad I bought this ebook that has to use this software. Unless anyone else knows of a different software program I could use. Thanks! This is extremely frustrating, especially when the book is for school.
