CC icon in Dock

Engaged ,

Hi forum.

(There's no subforum for generic CC questions, so I'm posting this in the Getting Started section.)

I just got an update for CC on Mac (5.0.0.354). When I click the menubar icon, I get an all-new window instead of the previous menu. Nothing wrong with that. But opening the window also brings up an active app in the dock. And when I try to close the window, I get the choice between hiding CC (with the app icon still in the dock) or quitting CC (which makes the menu item disappear).

Of course I want CC to run in the background like previously, without having it visible in the dock. Does anyone know if I'm missing some kind of setting, or if this is a design mistake?

Edit: Please note that before I click on the menu item, CC is running along finely in the background without any dock icon, only the menu item, just in ye olden days.

what is Mac (5.0.0.354)?  ie, what is your os version?

and i'm not sure what problem you're describing, but restart your computer and see if that solves the problem.

if not, try resetting the cc app: make sure it's in the foreground, then press: Cmd + Opt + R

if that fails too, can you embed a screenshot that shows the problem?

I'm on Mac OS 10.14.5.

5.0.0.354 is the version number of CC.

Edit: Hmm, this forum acts strangely. There doesn't seem to be a way to get a full editor for repliees, only a quick-reply version. Hence I posted the above reply when I actually wanted a paragraph break.

Thanks for the tip, I tried resettin the app. It restarted as expected, and when I chose Hide, it disappeard from my dock, leaving only the menu item. A correct behaviour. Many thanks, it seems like something was fishy before the reset.

you're welcome. (p.s. these new adobe forums have quite a few issues that are being worked-out.)

I'm trying to mark this response as correct (for solving my problem), but I really can't find out how to do it.

@gunnarlinn.

Thanks for liking the newer verions of our application. Have you tried pressing the cross button on the top.  Your app will keep running in the background and it will just hide your application.

Hi, yes, I tried that but the app icon stayed in the dock. It wasn't until I reset the app (as kglad suggested) that the problem disappeared.

Could you please confirm by right clicking creative cloud icon present in Dock, that "Keep in Dock" option is not checked. If it is not, then clicking on cross button on the top of application will hide the application icon from dock while keeping the app running in the background.

Sounds plausible, but resetting the app solved the problem.

Please add to a list of suggestions an option to never have the dock icon show. Many applications that live in the menubar have a setting to choose if you want a dock icon or not. It would great if it could be hidden all the time, like before, even if I click the menubar icon.

I wish Adobe would get their act together. I see from MacUpdate (and this forum thread) that 5.0.0.354 is available. But downloading the installer and running it installs the older 4.9.0.504 version. I've tried deleting the app entirely and it still installs the old version. Why is it so darn hard to get a simple installer to work???

[Update:] I chatted with a support person who immediately asked for permission to log-in to my computer. I told them no, and to just give me a direct link to the 5.0.0.354 installer - which he/she did.

After successfully installing 5.0.0.354, I see what the OP is talking about. They've taken the same approach as Dropbox did. The app runs in the background with an icon in the menubar. When you click that icon, instead of a simple dropdown like it used to have, it opens the Creative Cloud app as a windowed app with an icon in the macOS Dock.

It's actually a much nicer layout and offers access to your ACC libraries and shared docs, among other things.

LATEST
Rollout be damned, the link to the latest version should be clearly marked on the website. As it stands, nobody actually knows what version Adobe has on the website until they download and install it.
