Is this the worst written Adobe app or are the 2 – 3 updates a week required to keep all other apps flourishing?
Today the app showed illustrator, InDesign, and photoshop had updates, but again the Creative Cloud had an updates, after which the three apps showed as up-to-date. This happens at least twice a month.

Yes I have Teams but that is Microsoft, not Adobe surely?

adobe offers several different subscription types. an adobe teams subscription is a subscription managed by an organization. if you have an adobe teams subscription, they control what you can do with updates, though it would be more common for them to prevent updates than to mandate them.
if you have an individual subscription there's something wrong with your cc desktop app that you can't control the update toggle. is it grayed out?

Thanks for continuing to help with this. I only have Microsoft Teams. I do have Adobe Connect as I said. This is provided by the Open University (I am doing some study to keep my brain active in retirement) and is their standard on-line tutorial medium. There have been no issues raised by any other students similar to mine.
On the Preferences General Tab I can toggle the Always Keep Creative Cloud Up to Date as normal. If I move to the Apps Tab then the toggle looks just the same as the one on the General Tab but doesn't work. It stays off

ok, if you have a plan provided by your school, the school's plan administrator has probably disabled all the students from using the school's plan AND controlling that toggle.
you could check with your plan administrator to confirm. i'd be interested to know the results, but if you check with a handful of other students and they all see the same thing you do, you already have the answer.
let me know what you find.

Sorry it doesn't work like that. The Open University is one of the largest in Europe with over 200,000 current students and is a distance learning model. Its students are from all walks of life and access it via computers across a plethora or home, business and academic computers. There is no way the OU's system would introduce something that limits all its students' terminals. All it says is: This is Adobe Connect. This is where you download it from (Adobe) and when you log into a tutorial it will open Connect. Whenever Adobe updates the app we will let you know in advance if we know and you will need to download the upgarde the next time you log in. As I have said before the issue has never been raised on a student forum and thetre is no doubt it would have been miong since if it were an issue

you're not getting any adobe apps directly from adobe?
your cc desktop app is obtained via your connect channel?

MY Adobe Apps are direct from Adobe into CC - Acrobat Pro and Photoshop Elements. It is only Connect which I use as an Open University Student who provide access to Connect under whatever deal they have with Adobe but it is specifically for OU tutorials etc.and not a full use for private purposes app.

Many thanks kglad. Given the nature of the problem I can really only try one option at a time and then wait for a month to see if it has worked or not before trying the next.
I have just carried out the reset. Interestingly I notice that Phtoshop Elements to which I subscribe is not listed in the apps

In which case all the issues I am getting for constant upgrades only relate to Acrobat. Just have to wait and see what your list of options achieves

you don't have to wait. you're making those changes to the cc desktop app to re-enable your auto-update toggle so you can control when updates are installed. is that toggle enabled after the reset?
if yes, great. now, restart your computer and check if it's still enabled.
if no, proceed to the next step.

Many thanks and sorry I misunderstood. I have carefully worked through all you suggest in sequence and still the toggle doesn't work. Maybe we call it a day as I plan to get a new laptop in February and hopefully that might resolve things. Besides by then we will be on fibre to house so everything should be much quicker (hopefully!)
Thanks againh for all your help

What about under the General preferences for the Desktop app?
Is "Always keep Creative Cloud up to date" set to on or off?

It makes no difference whether it is on or off - I still cannot toggle the auto update to address the different apps
