Lightroom Classic CC Offline Updater

Why are there no (apparent) direct download links for updates to Lightroom Classic CC?

The link to download the full installer is here: Download Creative Cloud apps , but this is for version 7.0.1 (the current version is 7.2). I don't want to update through the cloud or download manager. Previous versions of Lightroom could be updated with offline installers (i.e. here's the updater for 6.14: Download Photoshop Lightroom), but despite scouring Google & the forums, I've been unable to find a proper updater for 7.x.  I'm really not able to understand why Adobe makes it so difficult...

Some people may simply prefer to (or be required to) keep their main work computer offline, and use a second PC for internet. Are these users not entitled to receive the same updates as those who desire (or are allowed to) keep theirs connected directly?

And even for typically-connected laptops, there are many situations in which an offline installer would be useful or necessary.  For instance, I often go on long photography trips where issues sometimes arise that require me to reinstall, reformat, or even replace the system.  I carry a hard drive with installers for the current version of literally every application I use...except Adobe’s.  This means that if I need to reinstall during one of these trips (or any other time I don’t have direct access to fast/unmetered internet), I'm stuck having to rollback to older versions.

Is there some reason Adobe makes it so difficult to update their software, or did I simply somehow overlook an obvious download link that didn't come up when searching Google or the forums...?

Hi Jeff,

Thank you for your participation here and for helping out. From your response, it seems like you are trying to push individuals to buy the Teams membership in order to have a very basic and expected feature like downloadable, industry-standard installers, which every other software manufacturer provides, and which Adobe itself has furnished for every previous release of Creative Cloud and Creative Suite.

Even outside of all the times that people have trouble downloading using the CC Desktop app, there are still plenty of very good reasons why having direct download links is important and necessary for many customers.

But, after the upcoming price increase, Creative Cloud for Teams will cost US$80/month, whereas for individuals (the vast majority of users) it's going to be $53/month. Are you honestly saying that you expect people like Justin to pay over 50% more as a single customer just to have this fundamental ability? Including folks with limited bandwidth and in developing countries, who typically need these installers the most?

Not to mention that using the Creative Cloud Packager is pretty much overkill (and confusing) for this situation, as it is a complex tool designed for organizational use cases. Using Packager does not compare in the slightest vs. someone having and using a standard installer, for these purposes.

Is this is genuinely the company's future approach instead of making direct download links available to all customers? If so, it's not a good plan. Do you really find it acceptable?

Jim, I am only pointing out the local installation options are currently available for Creative Cloud for Team and Enterprise members.  This is a feature that organizations expect and we have made it available to them.

For individual members they will want to continue to utilize the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application as the primary means of downloading, installing, and updating their Adobe applications.  We do have installation files available at Download Creative Cloud apps but the latest update was performed on March 20, 2018.

For individual members, we do recommend they use the process listed in Learn how to download your Adobe Creative Cloud apps to install their software.

justink49996074 has been about as clear and patient as any customer could expect to be, but is more or less insulted with what amounts to a really spammy and robotic company line obfuscation response from staff member @jeff_a_what_is_my_job_worth It's probably worth clicking the "Action v" button under one those posts and reporting it as spam.

Before purchasing this product, the first thing I wanted to know "is there an offline installer and updates".

Thanks to this thread I'm now unlikely to purchase the product for personal use because I will be treated as less than an "organisation".

Great customer relations Adobe, keep it up and we'll all be moving to your competitors' products.

Hi Justin,

Your points are excellent and spot on, and you're absolutely correct on all of them!

Right now, unfortunately, you can only get the initial base (".0") releases. This was a good start in October 2017, but Adobe has not followed through by also providing the ensuing updates... So as of this writing, they are simply not available, although there is no technical reason for this.

Hopefully this will change, as it did for previous releases. You can submit your feedback directly to the company on this page:

Feature Request/Bug Report Form

I would also ask Adobe's Jeff A Wright for his comments here. Jeff, what would your response be, and what do you suggest customers like Justin do? Thanks!

Justin, thank you for your feedback.  What specific errors prevent you from installing Lightroom Classic CC, and the available updates, through the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application?  For individual members, we recommend the process listed in Learn how to download your Adobe Creative Cloud apps .

If you are involved in an organization which requires flexible, and local, installation files and deployment options then I would recommend a Creative Cloud for Team or Enterprise membership, Justin.  Please see the following links for more details regarding deployment options for Creative Cloud for Team or Enterprise memberships:

We do periodically update Download Creative Cloud apps with updates for the different applications.  We do not recommend using this page as a primary means of obtaining the Creative Cloud applications, Justin.  If you are facing any errors in the process then I would encourage you to work directly with our support team at Contact Customer Care so that any errors can be resolved.  You would then be able to use the process listed in Learn how to download your Adobe Creative Cloud apps to install and update Lightroom Classic CC.
