So i download exe on ftp, i extract exe with winrar, i extract program with msiexec /a AcroRead.msi

I have AcroRead.msi in my extract folder with all folders. Now if i launch msiexec /a AcroRead.msi /p AcroRdrDCUpd1501020056.msp or with the acro.msi in the extracted folders, i got the legendary : The upgrade patch cannont be installed by windows blablabla.

So what's the problem this time ? I use msi and msp they havent been extracted............... Same thing with msp from ftp......

Anybody have a solution ??

Thanks a lot

Now decompress the exe file.

msiexec /a acroread.msi > Make a new folder

in the new folder paste le msp file. msiexec /a acroread.msi /p AcroRdrDC1501020056.msp and make also a new folder. All file are now okay.

I do not understand why you want to install using AIP. Why not just deploy using setup.exe. It is simple, easy and is a single step process.

Anyway if you still want to stick to old methods:

1) Extract installer from exe downloaded from Adobe site.

2) First create an AIP of the base installer using command msiexec /a <Extracted AcroRead.msi from EXE package>. This will create a new package which will have an MSI inside it.

3) Save the AIP package created in step 2.

4) Apply Patch to AIP created in (2) by using command line msiexec /i <AcroRead.msi (This is the msi created in step 2 above)> /p <path to extracted msp file>

5) Uninstall the installed AIP from end user machines.

6) Push the new package created in step 4.

7) I think you can combine steps 5 and 6 by using command "msiexec /i <AcroRead.msi (This is the msi created in step 2 above)> REINSTALLMODE=vomus /qb" but you test it once and see if it work fine for you.

Last but not the least stop using AIP, uninstall existing AIP and then directly deploy using bootstrapper (setup.exe) Bootstrapper Deployment — Enterprise Administration Guide. It will save you time and energy later on when pushing patches.

I'm using old method because i push new version from software installation with GPO, so it must be a msi file not a exe.

And i don't push exe on 200 pcs manually or with a batch/script file. If you have a better way than this i would like some explain about it 🙂

I already using Acrobat Customization Wizard DC to generate new mst and ini files.

msiexec /i <AcroRead.msi (This is the msi created in step 2 above)> /p <path to extracted msp file>. "/i" doesnt work, it just showing the helper.

Sorry for the typo; command should be:

msiexec /a <AcroRead.msi (This is the msi created in step 2 above)> /p <path to extracted msp file>.

@JeanGurgle, why don't you push an elevated batch script via GPO and then that batch can take care of installation. Wouldn't that be much simpler than creating API for every update?

That's my question. Why it is faild with fr package and not US, and how correct it ? Edit msi info etc etc.

Okay with it but how to create a correct batch script that update ONLY one the computer and dont do it each reboot/shutdown. I'm okay with it like i can do to clear flash install (like this : https://forums.adobe.com/inbox?objectType=2&objectID=6652439 ) But each reboot the script popup. If i do this with acrobat i think i will overload my server lol

Hi Jean,

I was away on a long vacation so couldn't reply earlier. I'm back now and I still think that AIP deployment is a cumbersome way to this every time a patch is released. You mentioned that you don't use a script because it will pop up every time and overload your server. Now I'm willing to write you a script that does not pop up at every reboot. Will you be good with a VBScript?

Also, since you mentioned that you're worried about overloading your server may I ask how many machines do you have in your domain? Do you have MS Office? How do you handle that deployment with GPO without a script?
