Use protected PDF with SharePoint 2007

New Here ,
May 03, 2011 May 03, 2011

Hello,

We are working with 5 Citrix servers and one SharePoint 2007 server used as intranet not accessible from outside.

I have to put up PDFs that can not be read outside the company.

My PDFs are protected by a digital certificate.

I want to install this certificate on the server that hosts SharePoint but the protected pdf can not be read by the users.

Should I install the certificate on the Citrix server or on the SharePoint server? Whitch certificate store must I used ?

Thank you

Hi PJL,

More details would help: It sounds like you want to host a PDF that's protected by certificate security on your SharePoint server and that users will access the PDF via Citrix. Is that right?

Try this:

  1. Create a digital ID for a generic intranet user.
  2. Install it on all Citrix servers for all users. You can put it in the Windows store or the Acrobat store (if Acrobat is installed for all users)
  3. Encrypt the PDF with that digital ID and put it anywhere (SharePoint in your case).

It should be the case that anyone that logs into the Citrix server should be able to view the PDF because they have access to the decrypting private key that originally encrypted the PDF.
