Hi, my client needs me to apply RED underlining to BLACK text, but cannot get FrameMaker to do this. Word does this, but I hate Word! Is there any way possible for this to be done? (FrameMaker's online help doesn't even have a subject on underlines.) Thank you! - SM

You can't do it directly in out-of-the-box Frame, but if you're outputting to PDF, Shlomo Perets has a Shortcut tool you can use to do this.

Thank you Art (it's all in Spanish though!). Since my PDFs are going to be hundreds of pages each, there's no way I can re-do the PDF each time with the lines, as I may be editing and sending the doc out for review several times in one day. Thanks for the quick reply though.

Any other suggestions would be most appreciated! Thank you!

Sandi, could you clarify the requirement for underlining -- is the underlining intended to indicate changed text? If so, have you considered using FM's built-in change bar capability? Although the underlining itself isn't in red, the change bar indicators in the margins are very, very useful and might perhaps be workable.

Also, pls let us know which specific version of FM you're using (from Help > About, including the "pxxx" numbers).

Sandi,

I may be wrong, because I don't use that particular tool, but the way Shlomo's tools work is by inserting PostScript snippets or markers that call PostScript code into Frame files. Which means that you mark up the Frame file once, and you're done. They stay in place until you remove them, and generate the underline every time you output.

Did you send him an email while you were on the site?

Thx Sheila and Art!

Sheila, I am using FM 7.2, and the underlining isn't for changed text, just something they want to distinguish aside from other text. Change bars won't work as I will be using them for reviews, and constantly clearing them.

I'll also try and send Schlomo an email and see if he replies.
