chapter numbering

Hello,

In a single FM document, I have tried to make a chapter numbering, but the chapter number is always at "1" for all chapters. Why ?

Hi Pierre!

 

Try changing the MTOC buiilding blocks to:
<$paranum> <$paratext">tab<$pagenum>

 

Then right click the Mini TOC on page 1 to update.

Yes, all looks good. I might minimize the spacing between the para numbers and the text, but that's it! 🙂

Hi Barb,

I have tried to work on numbering properties.

Here is my workflow :

 

1) the "chapitre tag" :

 

 

2) the "section tag" :

 

Do you think this workflow and the settings are correct about the numbering properties ?

And I have deleted my precedent miniTOC. So in the new miniTOC I have two tags : "chapitre tag" and "section tag" :

When the miniTOC is created, is it possible to add new paragraph tag to the MiniTOC, or do I need to delete the created miniTOC and create a new miniTOC with the added paragraph tags ?

Hi Pierre:

 

You can delete the original mini TOC and create a new one.

 

However, you aren't starting over, because it doesn't delete the original paragraph style (Chapitre tag MTOC) or the MTOC reference page that you already set up—it will just add a new line to the reference page. You will need it format the new one, and then go back to page 1 and right click to update to include the new info along with what you already have.

    Hi Barb,

    I have entered "paranum" in reference page and it works very well. Thank you.

    Here is the workflow I have used :

    1) I write the titles of all my chapters :

     

     

    2) Then I select the chapters titles and I create a tag ("chapitre tag") like this : "Chapitre <n+>" :

    So, it put automatically "chapitre 1" and "chapitre 2" before my chapter titles.

     

     

    3) Then I create a miniTOC by selecting the tag I have created ("chapitre tag") :

     

     

    4) Here is the result by adding "paranum" in the reference page :

    I can notice in paragraph catalog that FM has created a tag "chapitre tag MTOC".

     

    Do you think it is a good workflow ?

      Yes, Pierre this is the correct workflow, and yes, Fm creates the Chapitre tag MTOC for you.

       

      The next step is to add the formatting to Chapitre tag MTOC (easiest on the reference page).. Set the font, and set the right-align tab stop (likely with leader dots) at the right margin.

      Hi Winfried,

      For my "chapitre tag", I have changed the "chapnum[+]" to "n+", and it works very well for a single FM document.

       

      But if I try to make a mini TOC on the same page of the single document, the mini TOC (see red line) does not displays the Chapter number tag ("Chapitre tag") I have created. It is strange because by choosing the mini TOC I had selected this "chapitre tag". So it should display "chapitre 1", "chapitre 2", but it is not the case. Why ?

       

      And in the Reference page I see that I have only "paratext" :

      Hi,

      If this is a single file, then this is the correct behaviour.

      The chapnum variable changes, when you start another file of a book.

      When you have only a single file, the chapnum variable will not change.

      You can use the other counters n+, etc.

      They work equally well.
