Files checked out/set to edit from Sharepoint Repository instantly deleting after checking out

Hello there,

I'm having an issue with the checked out versions of files from my Sharepoint Repository.
I can check out a file, no problem, and return the check out.
However, I get the error "Cannot find the file named c:\>folder<\...\****.fm. Make sure that the file exists" when trying to edit a file:

  1. If I do the Checkout command, then Edit command, I simply get the error.
  2. If I do the Checkout and Edit command, in the working folder I can see the file be created then instantly removed.
(In both instances, the file remains checked out.)

This is happening on multiple machines. From what I can tell my Sharepoint permissions are fine. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Cheers, Tom.

Hello James, Apologies I was on holiday when you sent this.

So it was something to do with a security element and I needed to make some changes in the Registry on the client PC side. Adobe Support sent me one link to some Microsoft article, but I did some more digging and came up with a better article/solution.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/security-for-sharepoint-server/enable-tls-1-1-and-tls-1-2-support-in-sharepoint-server-2019

As it turns out, it was mostly the same fix (see step 3.4), but also the article states to complete two further steps (3.5 and 3.6). If these were required or not specifically for this fix, I don’t know, but at least from Microsoft’s perspective I’ve done everything. I tested this on 3 machines and all worked properly.

    Cheers, Tom.

@jamesglavin - what version of FM? If you're all patched up & it's still happening (btw never use a OneDrive location), then you should contact the FM folks - see https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/enterprise-support.other.html#framemaker for your Adobe Support options. I'd recommend using the tcssup@adobe.com e-mail address as it reaches a team dedicated to Technical Communication Suite products including FrameMaker.

Then reply back to the thread to indicate what the solution was.

Version installed is 16.0.0. My organization's IT department has to deploy all updates, so I'm working with them to get updated to 16.0.3. I will try to replicate the issue in 16.0.3 before contacting support. Thank you.

I am a new FM user working to get sharepoint integration set up, and I'm experiencing this issue. I am able to connect to a repository, check out files, but as soon as I try to open a file it gives the error "Cannot find the file named C:\... Make sure that the file exists."

I tried multiple locations for the local cache including a directory under the root of C:\, a folder in my OneDrive folder, etc and the issue persists.

Were you able to resolve your issue, and if so, how?

    Thanks,
    James

Very nice, I applied only step 3.4 (the one registry key added) and it seems to have resolved the issue. Thanks so much for the reply!

You don't mention what point version of FM you're running, but maybe something changed in it. I suggest talking with the FM folks - see https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/enterprise-support.other.html#framemaker for your Adobe Support options. I'd recommend using the tcssup@adobe.com e-mail address as it reaches a team dedicated to Technical Communication Suite products including FrameMaker.

In that case, something must have changed in your environment - Sharepoint settings, anti-virus? Have you talked with your IT dept.?

Nothing has changed in Sharepoint, anti-virus, or my network (I'm one of the IT admins for my company).

Was this working fine before? If so, what's changed?

Yes it was working correctly when I set it up (~3 months ago), and as far as I'm aware no changes have happened.
