    Hm. This should not happen.

When you have an old FM 5.5 installation, I recommend to open the files there and save them as MIF. This is an exchange format which also corrects any inconsistencies. Then open the MIF files in a newer FM version.

If you're having trouble opening the files using File > Open, create a new blank portrait document, and using File > Import > File using the Copy into document option.

IMHO there should be no problem to just open the *.fm files in a new(est) version of FM. You may get error messages concerning fonts, but that's harmless. I can open even FM 4 files in FM-15l (which was issued 2019) and also in FM-17 (issued 2022).

Thankyou very much for taking the time to reply, its nice to know help is out there.

I have double clicked on a FM5.5 file, and tried to open them from inside FM2019 navigating to the file, in both scenarios Frame Maker itsself has crashed out totaly.  I know the 5.5 files are viable as they will open in an old FM5.5 installation we have.  Is there a setting I should be looking for or something of that nature, Im at a bit of a brick wall unfortunatly.
