How do i display subheading level 2's in my TOC? (In the same format/style as my existing TOC)

I know how to add them so they are displayed (Right click TOC>Set up TOC & include subheading level 2), thats not the issue. The issue is im trying to add them in the same format as the existing TOC, see below circled level 2 headings

When i click view reference pages it seems to contain the script for the TOC (admittedley, im venturing into unknown territory for me here). I have messed around with it a bit, trying to add in level two subheadings where the arrow is in the image below, but it doesnt seem to be doing anything. Does anyone know what im doing wrong?

    Halleluja! thanks so much. One final question, is it possible to only show sub heading lvl 2 for one chapter in the TOC? We have quite a large electronics chapter that it would be useful for but its not necessary for the rest of the manual (which also contains sub heading level 2's, in places) 

     


    No, not really. There's always workarounds, though. You might create a subheading paragraph style, which is specific for only this particular chapter. Or you might merely delete all the superfluos entries in the TOC before saving/printing.

    You will have to format the paragraph style "subheading level 2TOC" yourself.

    You are the right place - the reference pages!

    1. Open you Paragraph Style Designer.
    2. Insert your cursor in the text.
    3. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard and click up or down, until the proper style highlights in the design name window.
    4. I don't exactly know what your style is named, but from your description, it is probably something like "subheading level 2TOC".  On your screenshot I believe it is one the two top lines that goes like: <$paratext> <$pagenum>. And what you need is to add the code "<$paranum>" making it "<$paranum><$paratext> <$pagenum>".
    5. Do that. Click Save and update the book again. Now FrameMaker will pull in the Paragraph number information <$paranum> and insert it in front of the paragraph text information <$paratext> and display the page number information <$pagenum>

      Oh, i was making amendments to the wrong part of the script!
      Im definetley on the right track now but this is where i currently am

      As you can see they are in the correct order now but the formating is off. I want it to match the fonts and layout of 6.6 for example. Its keeps going back to times new roman even though i have adjusted the script too. Im currently here, i purposley stepped it in slightly as i would like 6.6.1 to be slightly indented from 6.6, in an ideal world.

      You are doing fine! What you need to do now, is to adjust the formatting of your new "subheading level 2TOC" style.

      1.  Go to the body pages of the TOC
      2. Insert the cursor somewhere in the text of one of the "subheading level 2TOC" lines, like: "6.6Knives/blanks storage..."
      3. Open Paragraph Designer. View->Panels->Paragraph Designer.

      4. The settings in the Paragraph Designer will look, mostly, like this.

      5. Start with font setting. Change the font setting to Arial (or what ever font you want) and click "Apply" + "Update Style"

      7. Now do the same procedure with the other font settings, like Weight, Size etc.  Always remember to do the "Apply" + "Update Style"
      8. Now the time has come for the Tab settings. In the Paragraph Designer, go to the Basic tab.
      9. Put your cursor in one of the lines in the TOC that looks right and has the settings you want.
      10. Look at the tab stop window in Paragraph Designer, and now you will see some tab setting there. Something like (but not equal to) this:

      12. Write down the setting. Insert the cursor in one of your subheadning lines and apply these tab settings, using the "Edit" button below the tab stop window. And always - click "Apply" +  Update Style.
      13. Update the book file
      14. Thing are probably not quite right yet, but what you will - probably - need, are to insert tabs in the code on the reference pages. A tab after <$paranum> and a tab after <$paratext> . Update the book again.
