Copy & paste. If you paste as FrameMaker Interchange Format, it will bring over any applied tags, although those won't be added to the paragraph catalog and so will show as overrides. If you paste as unicode text, you'll need to apply styles after pasting.

Even easier is to edit your maker.ini file and rearrange the order of the ClipboardFormatsPriorities= line. Set it so that TEXT comes at the beginning of the line, e.g.
ClipboardFormatsPriorities=TEXT, FILE, MIFW, MIF, RTF, OLE 2, META, EMF,  DIB, BMP, UNICODE TEXT
Then Ctl-V works just like plain text. Used it extensively when pulling content out of Word docs without all the Word cruft.

Yes. That's what I also would do. To paste as FrameMaker Interchange Format you do not need to change anything. Just press CTRL+V.

When you want to paste as something else, e.g. Unicode text, then you have to select this in the context menu in Paste Special.

By the way, I recommend the very small tool PureText to paste as text. Works in all applications. Very handy!
