Fresco freezing when tool switching - iPad

I've encountered some serious issues with Fresco freezing. 

It normally happens when I am tool switching. Most of the time it's from a vector brush and trying to tap on Transform, Eraser, or the Type Tool. This error happens literally every time I want to tool switch. Fresco is basically unusable to me right now, which sucks as I'm a professional and this is my workflow. The only way around it is to swip up on my ipad, exit the program, and come back. Only then can I tool switch, and it's MOST of the time. Sometimes I have to close the program and reopen it in order to tool switch.  

 

Example. I'll be using a vector round brush to draw, then I'll want to transform something, so I'll try to tap on the transform tool and can't. Everything on the screen is frozen, except:

  • my ability to keep using that selected round brush tool
  • I can long press to eyedrop change color
  • I can move the cancvas

I can't tap on other tools, I can't select layers. I have to exit the program and then come back to reset it. I thought maybe it was a memory lag and tried waiting to see if Fresco could "catch up" and that didn't work either.

 

I can't figure out a cause. This happens on all pf my canvases/projects. It happens on a basic canvas with 1 layer and it happens on a canvas with many many layers and multiple types of brushes and elements. I have restarted my iPad. I have checked for Apple and Adobe updates. I have closed all programs except fresco. I have signed out and signed back in. There is plenty of memory and storage on the device available.

 

I have no fix for this, and I'm fed up. This is my livelihood and it's been happening for weeks. Anyone else have the same issue or a fix?

Fresco v5.2 is now available in the App Store and should have the fix for this issue.

Hello, i am using an iPad Pro and i have started experiencing the issue with the new Update V5.2.0
Maybe the Fix has now created a problem for iPad users? I had Fresco freeze several times since the update, today like 20 times - also after changing tools/color/transparency.

no crash, just freeze. I have to close the program to restart from last save. Working on a promotrailer, so its a bit annoying tbh.

If Fresco is still not working - I've had the same issue with no way to fix it. 
Try Amadine or Affinity Designer. Both have ipad versions and have vector brushes

This is reccurant issue I am also facing when using the vector brush, its jarring and really disrupts creative flow!

Do we think their will ever be a fix for this. I have been living with this headache for months, at least probably since last summer. A litte less than a year maybe, constant freezing, always have to restart my iPad to get the program to work again. It's beyond frustrating & counterproductive. I will not switch to Procreate because of its raster limitations. we do all vector stuff so I have to live with this all the time. Come on Adobe let's get it together. It has been a few weeks this is months. People rely on these programs to make a living. Thank you!

It was fixed in an update, maybe 1-2 months ago? I haven't had an issue since, thankfully. It was driving me crazy since I do all vector as well. Make sure you're updated!

Oh jeez. Well I'm glad to hear its working fine for you. Thank you for bringing it to their attention in the first place.. However it has been non stop for me. I have the most updated version. Maybe I will have to try to uninstall & reinstall the app again.

this is been happening for a long time now,  the update kinda fixed it, but the next upgrade it's making it worst, in fact, it now "CRASHES" i've never had a crach problem with fresco, and im a long time user, you nned to fix this ASAP, it feels like a buggy app , and not a pro tool at all , i understand that maybe the model of mi IPAD pro its not the newest one is from 2021, with those M chips, but keep in mind your customers, we are illustrators and graphic designers, that rely on these apps to earn the day to day, consider at least making some tipe of version for those not so new devices too, i mean, it should be working as it was working the first time a purchased the plan.... and now you're not delivering at all.... not the first time i complain about this, im seriously thinking leave you guys  , and not because i want to, but because you're forcing me to it , great app, but this bug or whatever needs to be fix guys,  thank you

Sorry you've been having issues! It is very frustrating. When people say they have issues here in the forums, the best Adobe can do is say "send us a crash report" when there isn't crashing, or "we can't replicate this" even though multiple people provide video evidence. The response and lack of fixes are well below the bar for a professional tool on which people rely on for their income. (like me!) It's very frustrating to see Adobe keep "innovating" with new programs no one asked for, and investing in AI features when the basics aren't functional. I'm with you. I'd leave in a heartbeat, but they "have me by the balls" because I need their other tools like illustrator and photoshop for other professional work. I can't wait for Figma to eat Adobe's lunch since the sale fell through!

It's always hard hearing that our product is falling short of expectations. If you have consistent reproducible steps that trigger the issue (whether it is a freeze or a crash), listing them here will help us track it down. If the issue feels more random, we always recommend upgrading to the latest available versions of both the app and the OS if possible.

 

When diagnosing issues, we also find it helpful to know the app version you have installed, the OS version you are running, the model name of your iPad/iPhone, and a general sense of the features you're using most. (For example, do you usually work with pixel, live, or vector brushes; how many layers do you typically have; what size documents do you work with.)

 

The issue we addressed earlier was specific to vector brushes, so it helped us to know that people reporting the issue were working mostly in vectors. That fix shipped in Fresco v5.2. The latest version available in the App Store is v5.6.

Could you share more details, like the version of the iPadOS/Fresco installed, your iPad model, if Fresco behaves this way when working with a particular file/tool/feature, and a small screen recording of the problem (if possible), so I can better assist you?

Thanks for responding!

 

Ipad Pro (12,9 inch) (5th generation)

IpadOS  version 18.3.2 (22D82)

Fresco version 6.3.0

 

It happens when I select the Vector brush.

 

I can use it, but if I want to click on any other icon, it just freezes (meaning I can't click on anything anymore, except use the vector brush).

 

The only way to get going is euther: to undo all the things I drew with that vector brush, or stop fresco and restart it again.

 

Time consuming!

 

If I do antyhing else (not using the vector brush) Fresco works perfectly.

 

As soon as the vector brush is used: the problem re-appears!

Ansd it seems to work normally again...
