Adobe Application Manager: "some updates failed to install"

New Here ,
Jan 15, 2017 Jan 15, 2017

I have been receiving notifications to update applications for well over a year.  Each attempt to do so results in the following message (screenshot below).  No specific reason is given.  I am using a licensed product.  Clicking "customer support" brings me to a page stating "upgrade error: this serial number is not for a qualifying product".

Thanks, Jeff.  Before I follow those steps, should I uninstall my currently installed CS5 apps  ?

Phubenthal if the applications are already installed then you may only need to apply the update, using the steps listed in Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra) , if the applications are not installed, or not functioning, you may want to consider removing the current installation and then reinstalling.

If you do decide to remove the current installation then I would also recommend the use of the CC Cleaner Tool available at Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems after running the uninstallers.  This will put you in the best possible position to successfully reinstall Creative Suite 5 using the workaround discussed in Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra) .

Jeff, unfortunately those suggestions didn't help, but I have made partial progress. Here's what I've done:

  1. I tried the steps at Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra), and it did install 116MB of something. When that was done I tried to update again, but I got the same error messages as before (U43M1D207).
  2. I uninstalled CS5, ran CC Cleaner, and reinstalled CS5, following the steps at Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra). The installation seemed to go fine, and I got slightly fewer error messages in the PDApp log this time. But then I tried to update again, and again I got the same error messages.
  3. I updated AAM from the patch at Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Macintosh : Adobe Application Manager and tried to update again, but again I got the same error messages.
  4. I uninstalled Creative Cloud (which got installed when I updated AAM) and tried updating again. This time it finally occurred to me to try updating individual applications, and a few of them worked, namely Bridge, Extension Manager, InDesign, Photoshop, and the Photoshop Camera RAW update. The rest are still giving me U43M1D207 errors but I'm giving up for now.

Ok thank you for the update Phubenthal.  I would recommend bookmarking this discussion in case you decide to attempt to reapply the updates at a future time.

Jeff, the lightbulb finally came on for me today. When you sent me to Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra), it never occurred to me that you meant for me to install the updates that way – I assumed those instructions were just for a first-time installation of the applications.

So after I realized what you were trying to tell me, I uninstalled CS5 and started over one more time – and this time I got all the updates installed.  Here's how:

First I downloaded the update installers. Many are at Product updates as kglad wrote in message 1, but there are some that I couldn't find there, so here are direct links:

Adobe Player for Embedding 3.1

Adobe - XMP : For Macintosh : Adobe XMP Panels CS5

Adobe - CS Live Services : For Macintosh : CS Live Services Update for CS5

Device Central CS5 – 3.0.1 Update

ExtendScript Toolkit Archives  | Adobe Developer Connection

Next, I mounted the disk image for each update installer, opened the installer folder, showed the contents of AdobePatchInstaller.app, opened the MacOS folder, dragged the AdobePatchInstaller executable to a Terminal window, and hit Return to launch AAM and run the installer.  (These are the instructions from Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra).)

That worked for all the updates except Adobe Player for Embedding and Adobe XMP Panels. For those two, I first had to make a local copy of the installer by mounting the disk image and copying its contents to a folder on my Desktop. Then I proceeded as above, except that I was dragging the executable from the Desktop folder, not from the mounted disk image.

Hopefully that should work for brand350cid and anyone else who's having this problem too.

Thank you Phubenthal!  This is a great post to start the weekend with.  I am happy you were able to get the main installation and the updates to install successfully using the workaround discussed.  Thank you for the detailed post it should help clarify the steps you went through for future viewers of this discussion.

I can't even find a Photoshop 12.0.4 on the update list with English following the title.

What is the point of Adobe sending us updates that won't install?  Why even bother?
