After weeks, and I mean weeks, of troubleshooting and research, I have come up with a temporary solution to an annoying issue: that being the mouse cursor flickering and disappearing while using Illustrator CC on a Wacom Cintiq and iMac.

Before I get into it, here are my specs:

iMac 21.5 inch Retina 4K Display running El Capitan (Don't even bother with OS Sierra)

Wacom Cintiq 22HD Touch

Adobe CC Illustrator 2017 (and 2015)

Issue:

While working in Illustrator and using a Wacom Cintiq pen, (regardless if on selection tool, brush, etc) the cursor flickers and disappears, and also slows down performance and also make's it sometimes unable to use Tools on canvas and in interface area.

Temporary Solution:

Here is the work around. Open Illustrator CC 2017. Keep it open, then restart your Mac. When you log back into your OS, you'll notice there is an arrow under the Illustrator icon in your Dock. Open Illustrator, it will start-up, and will work fine. The problem will come back if you close Illustrator, and then re-open it again. So make sure you always keep it open, even when putting your computer to sleep. If you need to close Illustrator for whatever reason, do so, re-start the program, leave it on, and then restart your computer. Wacom drivers also seem to be irrelevant to this issue, as I ended up completely uninstalling all Wacom drivers as the Cintiq is still running fine without it (pressure points working, cursor lined up to mouse, etc)

This video advises you to install something that is not described in detail. What are those files?

I would not trust this.

There is a link mentioned in the Youtube description tab, the link will download something called  CEPHtmlEngine files. After I replaced the content from the downloaded files and reset Ai preferences and it started working fine. I happy .. thought to share this with other Ai users .. here

from an official source?

Or from some third party source?

The download link is using a link shortener, so the source of the files is hidden and you don't know what you're downloading there. Are those the offical unaltered files or do you download some hack or even malware?

By downloading and installing this stuff you advise people to bypass their virus protection so you'd better be much more precise in this.

I may be able to help. I have fixed my PC and Mac - it has to do with the Wacom drivers installed.
What OS are you using?

Hello,

I though that this may be an issue with the wacom drivers. Can you please tell me what have you changed, as I'm experiencing the same issue.

Thank you

The mouse flickering is probably caused by a third party software:

Web Companion
