Hi there,
After the installation of Monterey all EPS are without preview... What can I do
I found this working solution on Apple forum.
I tested it and it works great. Please pay attention to copy modfied qlgenerator in Library/QuickLook, NOT in System/Library/QuickLook

Yes, thank you for the link, have submitted something appropriate. Edit the info.plist worked for me on OS 12.4 - BUT they only show locally. I uploaded a dozen files to a library site requiring .eps file and they are rejected as no Preview available. Maybe Adobe needs an option to include Preview in their apps. Or Apple should stop buggering about and fix it.

Apple's Quicklook feature is not changing a files content. So even if you get Quicklook to work it's not changing anything for the upload to the library.
Are these old EPS files or something you saved recently?
Have you tried saving some new EPS files in Illustrator with various settings for the TIFF preview to see if the library accepts one of them?
Is it a library you could point us to for some testing?

Thank you ATAPP.
1. From Illustrator I saved as .eps with 8 bit TIFF preview.
2. I have tried Safari and Firefox both produce the negative result.
3. See 1.
They are new .eps files in Illustrator CC.
When saving as .eps I do get a warning that the artwork requires flattening and this doesn't seem to affect the preview fail.

Try to save as older EPS. In the top selection try Illustrator 8 or Illustrator 3.
I don't have any answers here but I would try things like that myself when stuck.

Thank you ATAP. I can't show a link as they are rejected because of no preview. I upgraded yesterday to Monterey 12.5 hoping it might fix this but it hasn't. But even worse the upgrade replaced the Info.plist with a version without the bit of code that I entered for the workaround. So Apple have broken that too. I did opening some old .eps files created in Freehand years ago and tried every config for saving but still no preview.
Doesn't Apple listen to customers anymore?

Earlier in this thread I commented that putting the things in /library makes it prone to system changes. Files in your user library will not be touched by system updates. So put it in /howard/library instead. Create a Quicklook folder there if it's missing.
Is the library private? Or can I try to upload to the same service somehow?
Old MacOs files can have issuses. I think FreeHand used PICT preview but the standard now is TIFF preview.

Sorry, I messed up the word library in my previous post.
The service you are trying to upload to. Is it private? Or can I try to upload to the same service somehow?

I have created a Quicklook folder in user/Library and was about to copy over the Info.plist but the contents of this list in OS12.5 contain no reference to Adobe at all mostly garageband. The Library in this case is Freepik.

I've never uploaded to Freepik but found a support page saying you need to upload both the EPS and a JPG preview.
For vectors and PSD files, you must upload the preview file in .jpg extension and the editable file in .eps or .psd. Both files (preview and editable) must have the exact same name so the system will understand that both are part of the same graphic.

Oh dear I am so embarrassed ATAP, how did I miss that? You have to jump through quite a few hoops too if you want to become a Contributor on freepik. But going back to the ealier point now that Monterey 12.5 removes the freedom to edit Info.plist, if I create a new Quicklook folder in User/Library is it just a simple case of duplicating the plist file, adding the extra line and re booting?

I don't remember if a reboot is necessary. You could try force quitting Finder first. Reboot if it's not working. Follow this but add it to the user library:

So, if I may ask a question: if EPS is such an outdated format then why is Adobe still allowing us to save AI files as EPSs? For that matter, why does Photoshop allow saving of EPS files?
Shouldn't they just remove that option if it's bad? Obviously, they must allow the opening of EPS files, especially in Illustrator, but they could disable the saving of that format.

I had it working, with the mentioned fixes. But since the altyeste OSX update to 12.5.1 previews of .ai and .eps are gone again. So very annoying!

Same here. I had it working. Then with an update it stopped again. I lost the eps thumbnail, but had thumbnails for ai. Now with the latest update to 12.5.1, I've lost thumbnails for ai also . . . it just keeps getting worse! Somebody tell me there is a fix on the way.

Don't know what has happened, but as a general rule, do the changes in your users library. System updates will not affect the files there.

FOUND AN ANSWER - without renaming a ai to eps, which could cause a confused computer lol. I just renamed an eps and the preview has come back

What becomes clear now -with Sonoma not supporting Postscript any longer- is that Apple said goodbye to the PS in .eps some time ago. Strangely enough we babble about it in these threads not knowing what is going on.
So: in the current MacOS Sonoma and also the previous itteration MacOS Ventura .eps is just not working anymore. End of discussion.

We have way too many .eps files in our workflow to let it go so easily. (Thousands of logos are just part of it.) The "Quick Look" fix works. Spread the word and keep the pressure on Apple. Still manic over the loss of Type 1 fonts so let us stand our ground on this one. 🙂

It's not that Postscript is dead - it's just not supported at the system level by the OS. Adobe products still use it just fine. But that means that anything that relied on a preview that the OS generated, now won't work. The same for all sorts of 3rd party apps that used Apple's tools to open EPS, convert them to PDF, etc. Hopefully there's some kind of workaround for previews eventually, but I'm not holding my breath.
PS-the reason for this is that Postscript files have been shown to have the potential to be a significant security risk...

Can you explain what you did? I don't see any difference in the before/after file names.

This youtube video helped me fix this immediately using similar steps below from Francesco. I found it a lot easier to follow rather than figure how to do this myself.

It's the same as before, now in a video. Bottom line, it's not working in Sonoma. I tried it again now and out of 50 EPS files I found in my home computer 12 show a preview. You need to redo this fix after every system update too. I'm using a script in Illustrator to convert to ai. I tried XNConvert but can't see an option for SVG.
EDIT: I changed Ventura to Sonoma. It was a typo in my original post

This solution does not work on Sonoma. If you want this capability, DO NOT UPDATE past Ventura.

There are several reasons to not update to Sonoma yet. One of them being that it just still has so many bugs.

The solutiuon stopped working for me under Monterey, as well.
