Can't save in Illustrator CS2

Hi Group,
I posted on the 25th Oct:-
"Have updated to CS2, everything fine except in Illustrator.

When saving work in the "Save as" or "Save a copy" I get "an unknown error
has occurred"

Even if I open work made prior to the upgrade from CS and then amend it, I
get the same "an unknown error has occurred", when I try to save it

I can save in other formats without problem, but I can't save my work in the
Illustrator format to return to later.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled without success.

Please has anyone else come across this, or can anybody advise a solution to
this problem?

Thanks in advance to all those that take the time to reply.

David "

Since then I have checked the Adobe forum for Illustrator and there appears
to be considerable traffic on this apparent "BUG" in illustrator, it also
seems to be hitting CS as well as CS2.

I find it amazing that Adobe can release software with problems such as
this. How can their credibility withstand issuing software that can't even
save in its own natural format.

It would appear that this bug was evident way back in March, yet here we are
still suffering in November, more that 8 months and still no word from
Adobe.

Any self respecting company would have pulled the offending software from
the shelves until they had a solution, yet Adobe seems not to have even
responded to the problem.

I'm sure there must be thousands of us out here that paid for this defective Adobe software and received a load of junk for their money.

If you feel as strongly as I do about it, how about a mass mailing to the
Adobe forums and let them know how you feel. They might eventually get the
message.

David

I seem to be having a problem as far as printing and pdfs go with Illustrator CS3. I am working in Vista and have no problems with any of the other CS3 componets. Illustrator saves the pdf when I do a save as as well as an eps...but with both when I go to print the page is empty.

I have tried all the suggestions above and nothing is working.

I think I just solved the problem in a really easy way. Right click on the Illustrator icon, then select properties. Under compatibility, select run this program in compatibility mode for XP. I saved a file as a pdf and it finally worked! I couldn't figure out all of that stuff with folders, but I have no problems after I did this.

Hi guys, unfortunately I too am suffering from this issue with saving ai and pdf files.

I have just upgraded my PC so no memory or system in-efficiencies there. I have been using CS2 for a long time on my old PC with Windows XP and I've had no real issues. Now however I have upgraded to the new PC which is running Vista, it was fine at first the all of sudden the problem has arisen.

I have systematically tried each of the solutions listed in this forum with no luck. Has anyone else found a solution for CS2 running on Vista.

Please help, I have a mountain of work and if I cant get this fixed I won't meet my deadlines!

    Thanks in advance :)

I am having the same problem. CS3 will only allow 1 save then it will not save again. It will not saveas either. I have installed the only download there is for CS3 to no avail....I also moved the files under c:\docs and settings\app data\adobe\adobe ill cs3 settings to a directory called old and restarted AI. no love there either.

    any help would be great.

I had the same problem with Illustrator but I could solve finally. After read many sites, blogs and forums and don't find a solution I tried something not recommended but it works and fix the problem

    Just do it this:

    go to
    %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\~username\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator [Version]

and erase all files there but no the folders.

An thats it! this solve the trouble for me.

    Hope this help yo.

All of a sudden, my copy of IllustratorCS2 is exhibiting the dreaded problem with type.

No matter what I do, I cannot save or export any files in Illustrator that have any editable text.

I've tried the suggestions in this thread (and others) and am still having the problem. Running AI 12.0.1 under WinXP Pro SP2 on a Dell Inspiron 6000d notebook with 2GB of RAM.

Seeing as how some people using Illustrator CS3 seem to be having this problem as well, that may strongly discourage me from spending $600 on the CS3 Design Premium upgrade.

    Thanks Polipo!
Simple solutuion that worked!!! Replace the AI CMAPS folder with Reader 8's CMAPS folder :) Perfect! Adobe should just put that up on their website instead of the other unhelpful info they have... it just didnt work. Not everyone upgraded from CS...
