Question

Change font of specific characters only

Hi,

Is it possible to change the font of some characters only (based on specific criteria, like character "a" only) in an artboard? "Find and Replace" does not allow such granularity in selecting what to find or replace with (font). I don't want to resort to a script. This is possible in InDesign.

This is for CS4.

Thanks.

In the latest versions of Illustrator and InDesign, you can set your type with the changes to the characters in InDesign, drag it into a CC Library then drag it into Illustrator. Copy and paste doesn't seem to work as well.

As for CS4, I'm not sure if you could do something similar, but maybe it's worth a try.

I did find a script that had been tested for CS6, you'll have to test to see if it'll work with CS4.

make a custom font... otherwise the 2 routes you don't like scripting and hunting and pecking with selections is you only bet (would take forever by hand per file..and possibly could skip a letter by mistake.. vs just globally swapping out letters and saving a font to use in illustrator)

Thanks Monika and Ryan. I expected that answer. It looks like I will be going the "takes forever" route then.

custom font is the best route.... change 1 letter in 1 file and done (and edit further if you need)

1 a that maps out to any 'a'  is better than typing 10000000 a's

Scripting this would be your only possiblity.
