Copy-Paste object with attached Graphics Style creates duplicate of style in Library

Every time when I Copy-Paste object with attached Graphics Style, this action creates duplicate of style in Library with incrementing number suffix.

How to reproduce this bug in Adobe Illustrator CC 2018:

  1. Create any object (eg rectangle), make custom outline (eg Red 2pt).
  2. Make new Graphics Style from it via dragging it to Graphics Styles Library list, make the name "Test style".
  3. Save this document as .ai (without version downgrade) and close it.
  4. Open this document again.
  5. Select this object, and ensure that it still have linked graphics style "Test style"
  6. Copy it to clipboard and paste into this document.

As result, you will see that new pasted object have "Test style 2" instead of reuse already exists "Test style" style. When repeating this actions - we will got more duplicates "Test style 3", "Test style 99", etc.

How to prevent creating duplicates of style in library, and reuse the already exists attached style?

Here Pasting symbols now creates unique symbols instead of instances of the original symbol – Adobe Illustrator Feedback  is bug report about same problem, so let's vote for fixing it.

Hi,

I have the same bug - duplicate graphic style after copy paste.
Very hard to reproduce in a new file.

For me, there were just a couple of graphic styles that duplicated after copy paste.

I solved this by remaking those "corrupted" graphic styles from scratch and replacing the current saved ones with clean ones.

I did a clean remake of graphic styles:

1. started from default appearance and a basic shape

2. didn't use anything from graphic style and swath panels. (not sure if this had any influence on the result)

3. if I needed a specific color, I copied the color code from a swatch

4. after the appearance was finished, I replaced the graphic style that was "corrupted" with the clean one

Is it only this document that has the problem?

I can repeat it in your example, but not in new documents.

If I cut your rectangle and remove all graphic styles, paste the rectangle back multiple times, I do not get duplicate graphic styles.

No, this is not only one document, this is just an example created from scratch. The problem repeats for me often with many documents, created in one version of Adobe Illustrator on one computer. It repeats not each time, but randomly.

So I want to understand the source of the problem and the solution how to solve it (convert bad Graphics Style to normal) without recreating whole style from scratch.

Here graphics-style-duplicate-example.ai - Google Drive  is example of file, that have described problem. Try to copy upper rectangle to clipboard and paste it.
