Create a border on each A4 page from a large file - Dress making pattern

hi,  Im creating an A4 pdf dress pattern, that will go over many A4 pages. I know how to print and tile etc, however, i need each A4 page to have a 1.5 cm border. Can you please advise how to do this?

hi Ton, I followed the below to save a copy as .ai file on desktop.  See attached screenshots, I have sent an email to sharewithai@adobe.com to help further.

Sharewithai is for files that are corrupt. I cannot access those, please just attach the .ai file (with the extension changed to .pdf) to a message here. What is also possible is to share your pattern here befor truying to split it up.

hi Ton, I re followed the original instructions again. I think i need to reach out to support to see why it's not working?  On your export as screens file, you have have 72 artboards that can be exported, however, I do not. I have the warning sign.  See below screenie. And further below, I have screenshoted the process.

Sorry i meant to say when i export for screens, that 72 screens are selected, but one is in total export.

Hey @Ton Frederiks , It's not clickable.  Seems to export fine with indivual A4 page files, but NOT as a single file. see screenies.

Can we start from the beginning?

You showed a file: SLIP DRESS_changes_LINDA_grade changes [Converted].aic

Can you Open that file and save it as PDF on your desktop? Make sure that in the Save Adobe PDF options the "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" is checked.

React to this forum post and use the attach option as shown here to share the pdf.

that's the issue @Ton Frederiks . I can't save onto my desktop. Im raising an issue with illustrator today about the issue. will revert once ive heard from them. Thanks for your persistence with me on this issue. see screenie.

That is not the file you first showed, try this one:

SLIP DRESS_changes_LINDA_grade changes [Converted].aic

or go to https://www.adobe.com/files/

select the 3 dots on the file and choose download.

Then Open that file, save it as PDF on your desktop and attach it

unfortunately, it didnt work. See screenies which show the process I went through. I have been on phone twice to customer support and on chat help with Adobe too. They still need to get back to me with the solution (regarding why i can't save on my desktop).

I have also tried to use the cloud file and print to pdf.  See attached versions. The 2nd attachment (rich test-1) is where I have selected fit to page.. I shouldn't have to select any scaling as it should be print as per the size in Adobe.

Do you believe this method should still work?  As the design from the screenshot spreads into the bleed 15 mm section, and it should not be there.. The margin should be free of any design.  Im following up Adobe and having another call with support today or tomorrow. thanks, georgie

Hi Georgie, with the standard Print Tiling method you would get the same visible overlap, that you partially cut off to glue the pages together. Both methods can create a visible overlap.

Hi Georgie, I looked at your screendump and it shows a place that is not correct for exporting.

 

Can you change the Export To location to something on your desktop or so?
